BANGSAR 🇲🇾 🍌🍃🍚// Banana Leaf Rice (MYR9.50 on its own; additional sides: Curry Fish approx MYR18, Mutton Masala MYR12 plus additional 6% Malaysian service tax) from Sri Nirwana Maju Restaurant in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. This spread of food for two was approximately aud18 in total. This banana leaf rice restaurant is open from 11am to 1am everyday and is super popular. We queued for around 20 mins before getting a table. The queue is long yet efficient as it moves along rather quickly. During this time, you’re given a leaflet to pre-order the dishes you want. Once seated, a banana leaf is placed upon the table and a server comes with three different choices of vegetables (pickles, fried bitter gourd, curried beans) along with dhal and curry sauces. A bit of everything is piled unto the leaf and the diner indicates to the server the amount of rice and condiments he/she wants. Additional meat sides can be ordered with the meal or the banana leaf rice (vegetarian) can be eaten on its own. The banana leaf rice here was nice though the mutton pieces I had were quite dry. Wiki trivia: “Banana leaf rice is a traditional method of serving rice dishes in South Indian cuisine. In banana leaf meals, white rice (or parboiled rice in authentic South Indian restaurants) is served on a banana leaf with an assortment of vegetables, pickles, appalam and other regional condiments (usually sour, salty or spicy). The banana leaf acts as a disposable plate and it in itself is not consumed. The choice of banana leaves is mainly due to the broad leaves as well as to the ubiquity of the plant in South India. Typically, only vegetarian gravy (e.g. sambar) will be served on the rice as it is meant to be a traditional vegetarian dish. However, sometimes boiled eggs, curried or fried meat or seafood are served as well. Traditionally, there will be two servings of rice with the first being served with gravy, side dishes and condiments whilst the second serving will be just rice with curd as a palate cleanser.” #bananaleafrice #nirwanabangsar #nasidaunpisang #bangsar #pfrinkl #pfrinmalaysia #malaysia (at Nirwana Banana Leaf Bangsar) https://www.instagram.com/p/BuoudQ1FtLT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=2ehsrd1dthql
