There are a lot of Nasi Sumatera place for lunch in Kota Bharu. I know a few such as: Restoran Mei Fong (Wakaf Siku- opposite KB Mall), Restoran Hover (the most famous), Nor Sutera, In Panji (opposite JPJ) and a few others. But this one is my most favorite. Kedai Makan Nasi Sumatera Haji Ismail is located in Jalan Gajah Mati (before Meena Curry House). The price per pack of this rice depends on what lauk did you take. I think it starts from RM5. The food quality here is very consistent & have been around for years. I personally love the "ayam kampung" and the "daging kerutub". They are opened from morning and closed around 3 pm everyday EXCEPT Friday- CLOSE. Another attraction here is, (I don't mean to be racist) you can see Chinese & Malays in a coffeeshop enjoying the Nasi Paku. I always proud to see the unity and the unique characteristic of the Kelantanese Chinese. Their Kelantanese dialect is a thick as the Malays and most my Chinese friends always refer themselves as "Orae Kelatae" and not by race. Personally I just think we don't need confusing campaign to unite people of different cultures, we only need one shared language and good food. Just like Restoran Jee Leong & Nasi Sumatera Haji Ismail, their are uniting the people their own way, one plate of rice at a time. ♫ Music: Taylor Swift Back To December (at Nasi Sumatera Haji Ismail, Kota Bharu)
