My parents left behind Pakistan and chose Canada for the same reasons many other Muslim immigrants came here ... : for democracy, freedom, stability and modernity.

@NatashaFatah - Didn't your family actually leave behind Pakistan and choose Saudi Arabia? Was that for the democracy, freedom, stability or modernity of the kingdom? 

I suspect it was for tax-free money. The decadence of working for Saudi billionaires probably makes it easy turn a blind eye to the gender / racial inequity and Islamist indoctrination, eh?

I guess the inconvenient fact of your decade-long stop-over in Saudi Arabia would have to be omitted for the sake of your article. After all, truth must take a back seat to "good" journalism.

Did your father receive Islamist training and support while in Saudi Arabia? Or are you the one in the family to have embraced a politicized Islam, like the others described in your article?
