I have the sneaking suspicion that Danganronpa S will have a killing game in it. They said it has been expanded to a full title. And Ultra Despair Girls was initially marketed as a sports game, so we know they have done this sort of thing before. Did you notice that the individual rating for it mentions it contains blood and violence?

Interesting theory, though I’m going to take the boring route and say that I wouldn’t put too much stock into that bit of speculation. It’d be cool if it was true, but until we know more, I think it’s best to keep our expectations in check and not expect too much from the game. Blood and violence could be something relating to the monsters and attacks from the RPG aspect of the game.

Spent my free period looking up info about Breakshot which is coming up in a few weeks, and I just have to say:

Are we no longer allowed to have stories about friends? Do they ALWAYS need to be paired off in some relationship?

I get that it’s impossible to tell people “NO. You CAN’T ship these two characters together!” but when did people become so hostile to those who just want to consume media where a character’s love for another character isn’t the main focus?

I’m not trying to attack anyone’s ships here. I just want folks to think about respecting other people’s opinions.

I’m just seeing entry after entry of Ouma or Komaeda fucks the DR universe. Could we get some chill story about like…anything else? Even something different sprinkled in every once in awhile would make these events a little more interesting and exciting.

Shiny Magikarp Giveaway [BDSP]

Just got word from back home that a family member is no longer with us. It’s a real reminder of how fragile life is and how things can change in an instant.

Please let your loved ones know how much you appreciate them. Family, friends, it doesn’t matter as long as you love and care for them. I’ve been lucky to feel close enough to my friends here in Japan to consider them family and I’m thankful for their support everyday. Don’t wait until it’s too late to let them know that you care. Life is too short to hold onto those words.

My family member had been in declining health for some time. He had been diagnosed with a terrible illness and was fighting a losing battle, but it’s still surprising that he’s no longer with us. He was a great man and will be missed.

Happy New Year, everyone. I hope the relationships you have grow deeper and more full in the coming year.

Responding to the ask from earlier...

TBH there will always be people who will talk. There will always be people who will complain. While one person may feel a specific way about things, another might be completely offended. 

In terms of fetishizing girls, I think Danganronpa (like many franchises) just sort of does that to women in general. It’s not like they’re specifically making a specific group of girls “sexy”, it’s way more broad than that. I mean....even if a girl isn’t wearing clothing that would be considered revealing or “sexy”, a lot of them have busts that are waaaaay larger than your average girl of that age. It’s not done by accident and DR isn’t the only guilty party. Media in general sexualizes women to a ridiculous degree. Personally I feel like they aren’t really targeting one group, it’s something that affects everyone. To me, that’s more of a problem...but I digress. 

Moving on to racism, I also think that is a bit of an overreaction. Take my favorite character: Asahina. Yeah, she’s not the smartest girl of the group. She isn’t intellectually brilliant but she would be able to talk circles around you when it came to sport techniques or swimming strategies. It can be a little hard to develop someone’s personality when so much of it revolves around a specific trait or ability that they’re good at. I’d also argue that Sakura is pretty smart in general. She displays bravery, sensitivity, loyalty, and bunch of other characteristics far from stupidity or anything that would make her less of a respectable character.  

I’m honestly more happy that there is diversity in the cast in general. DR does an okay job at showing characters of different heights, body types, and skin color. Sure they’re not different nationalities but I think it’d be more offensive to have 16 generic white-looking kids who are all pretty and attractive. I wonder if people are picking up on character flaws and attributing them as stupidity. No character is perfect in the DR universe and when people make mistakes, they often look silly. That isn’t stupidity or weakness, it’s more of a human trait than anything else. 

Don’t let the silly arguments get to you, anon. The internet is full of people who like to pick things apart and find drama to gush about. I honestly don’t think there is a whole lot of both racism and sexualization of dark skinned girls in DR.

Your thoughts on Kodaka not being involved in Danganronpa S ultimate summer camp?

I’ve never been one to shy away from my opinion of Kodaka. The series exists because of him and I’m thankful for that, but I find that his storytelling over time doesn’t really keep me as engaged as it did when the concept of DR was fresh.

Personally, I am ok with people having new opportunities to share their passion for DR and contribute the series. I STILL think Kodaka will have a hand in the next main series DR game when it releases, which kind of makes me sad, but if I’m wrong about that, I’ll happily take that L.

When Kodaka left to walk his own path, a lot of people were worried that it would bring about the destruction of DR, but I’ve never felt that. I’ve seen people come into other games and provide spectacular storytelling moments that will stay with me forever. The first example to come into my mind is Naoki Yoshida coming on board to completely rework FFXIV and turn it into A Realm Reborn. The game needed his fresh perspective and today the new and improved FFXIV is one of the top MMOs out there and is known for superb storytelling.

Kodaka will always have a place in DR history for me, but I’m excited to see where we go from here. I’m optimistic and just hope the franchise will continue to enjoy the popularity it deserves in the future.
