Black Sheep – The Choice Is Yours 12″
The third part of my favorite rap group is Vincent Lamont Mason Jr(. born March 24, 1970, 1970) the Brooklyn, NY native is also known as Maseo, P.A. Pasmster Mase and Plug Three is a rapper, producer, and DJ. Mason is the group’s Mason may be in the background as the DJ but, his skills on the turntables get him noticed. When he joined the group in 1987 three caught the attention of producer Prince Paul and he managed to get De La Soul a record deal with Tommy Boy Label. Maseo spends most of the time behind the turntables for the group, however, he is rhyming on, “ Ring, Ring( Ha Ha Hey) and a guest appearance on a Jungle Brothers track he and De La Soul worked with Damon Albarn and The Gorillaz . Mason states, “he’s a b-boy at heart” drawing inspiration from global and contemporary. When he isn’t working with the group he spends his time DJing gigs all over the globe. He is also a member of the Spitkicker collective, a group of artists who engage in social and community-based activism Maceo is another key fixture in the Native Tongue Family he is a respected member of the hip hop community.

Kamaal Ibn John Fareed (born Jonathan William Davis; April 10, 1970), has his wallet on him. He is known as Tip and is a rapper, record producer, singer, actor, and DJ. He started his career in the late ’80s as an MC and main producer of the rap group A Tribe Called Quest. During the mid 90’s he was one of the co-founders of the production team The Ummah which lead to the release of his gold-certified solo album in 1999. In the 2000s, he released his second solo album The Renaissance which earned him a Grammy nomination. A Tribe Called was the subject of a documentary called, Beat Rhymes &Life the Travels of A Tribe Called Quest it gives an inside look into a part of the hip hop genre that best defines me which is the Native Tongue collection that was vibrant in the mid-‘90s. Outside of his music, Q-Tip has appeared in a number of films. He has also collaborated with a number of artists in hip hop and soul. As a DJ, he has been hosting Beats 1 radio show and Abstract Radio since 2015. In 2016, he was named the artistic director for hip-hop culture at the Kennedy Center. In 2018, he became the instructor of hip hop and jazz courses at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music. Q-Tip and the rest of A Tribe Called Quest recently released an album a few years ago. He has spread his wings by working with various artists over his career Q-Tip still misses his friend group member, Phife Dawg but still keeps his name alive. A Tribe Called Quest is a part of my favorite rap groups and released some important albums in hip hop. They were recently nominated into the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Q-Tip is one of the most prominent rappers and producers in hip hop today and is always on point.
A.T.C.Q. - A TRIBE CALLED QUEST
( COVID PACK ) #NATIVETOUNGES #RIPPHIFE #ATCQ
He drank a lot of soda so they called him, Dr.Pepper. He was also “Malik the 5-foot freak” but, he’s Malik Izaak Taylor(November 20, 1970 – March 22, 2016), known professionally as Phife Dawg (or just Phife), member of one of my favorite rap groups A Tribe Called Quest. Phife may have been the shortest member of the group but he made up for it with big rhymes and a big personality. He formed A Tribe Called Quest with friends he grew up with Q-Tip and DJ Ali Shaheed In 1985. In 1989, they released their first album. By the time they released their second album in 1991 Phife added more to the group in production and songwriting. Phife would rap about political and social issues. He was a die-hard sports fan he was on various shows on ESPN. Phife’s positive attitude and outlook are the I like about hip-hop and A Tribe Called Quest. Phife passed away in his home due to complications relating to diabetes. He played a key part in the Native Tongue movement in hip-hop during the mid-’90s. There’s great documentary on A Tribe Called Quest directed by actor Michael Rapport entitled, Beats Rhymes and Life it gives an inside look into each of the members and the genre of rap they were apart of Phife is missed respected and admired by family, friends, and the hip-hop community. He will always be on point and forever be a member of A Tribe Called Quest.

He is also a member of the Spitkicker collective, a group of artists who engage in social and community-based activism. As I mentioned before De Soul was signed to Tommy Boy, unfortunately, there have been some problems with the label and Maseo and the group has very open and candid about itMaseo is another key fixture in the Native Tounge Family he is a respected member in the hip hop community.
