Keep in mind USGS downgraded all quakes by as much as 4 magnitudes off shore. They've been working to keep the magnitude of quakes they allow in their databases just under the line, calling 6+ quakes a 5.9, for instance.

I literally just said we are lucky Liege's dam didn't break but a German RUR DAMM OPHOVEN just did break!! This means Limburg needs to open their lock gates but this will mean more floodings no matter whether they open or close them!!!

To anyone who still believes these sights in the currently flooded and heavily suffering areas within Benelux and Germany is normal? Fuck you. I'm sick and tired of seeing people spitting on the total more than thousand dead and missing, plus counting because you say this is a normal seasonal thing to happen. The people who lost their homes, lost loved ones, those who still cannot reach loved ones either because they're missing or because the signal is still off the grid in plenty areas. Ask them if this is normal, because it isn't. They all were prepared in some extend about the rainfall, potential floodings, and still all of it went above what anyone could've suspected and predicted. No one has seen this in decades, centuries. In plenty countries the last time similar events happened was over 50 years ago, in the regions it now happened some even around a 100 years. Please look at the aerials of the aftermath and look at the before, then dare say that this isn't that bad and we are whining, that this is still normal as some of you claim to say it is. Perhaps it is where you are from but for Western Europeans this is everything but normal. Most of us, whether that is 20, 40, 60 or 80, haven't seen floods this bad in our entire lives. Please stop telling any of these countries how 1/7th of rain within a year that poured down on them in 48h is a common seasonal occurrence. It isn't, not even in winter/spring when we get max our feet wet in melting waters. Our barriers, rivers, soil and dams can't carry it, can't keep us safe from a disaster as this because it isn't normal. Pay some respect.

I just read your post about the flood and i pray for all the dead, lost and the people who lost their homes. Hopefully this flood ends before anything worse happens. And i hope you and your loved ones are safe. My prayers are woth you♡

Thank you for this, as do I. I too feel and pray for the families and friends who lost their homes and loved ones, the ones that don't get to mourn the loved ones because they can't recover the bodies or won't find them yet due to the rubble, those living in uncertainty because signal is lost in lots of areas and causes lots of people being unable to reach out to others. I pray that the barriers, dams, etc that are on high alert will subside and those evacuated can return to their homes without more damage being done to them. I am sorry to all who lost their homes and belongings, and even if the most important is that you live, no one deserves to lose everything in a matter of minutes. I hope that everyone from those traumatised by the floodings to the authorities and rescue teams will recieve the help they need once the worst has passed to process all this, to mourn, to recover from the shock, to recieve the support needed.

I hope more countries in Europe will bring aid to the countries most needing it, apart from the view currently helping. That the governments, since some are failing to or lacking response, will bring proper aid, support, mental/medical and financial help to ensure the people can rebuild their lives again.

Numbers will rise as the water is subsiding, and though not every area is safe and lots need to abandon their homes for they are unstable due to the force of water & water damage. All we can do is hope the majority of 1300+ missing are found, whether this is alive or dead. And that those, most I pray, who have lost their lives can be reunited with their families for closure, mourning and a burial.

And thank you lovely, I am safe and am thankfully on the other end of the country and likely will only experiences some of the high tide that will reach us by Sunday but likely won't cause us any damage, at most get our feet wet. I'm grateful from what I know that family friends and family in the hit areas are safe and unharmed, most lucky to just be on the edge of the evacuated and harmed areas.

It is officially called the flood of 2021 for benelux and Germany that's how serious it is, the many casualties and missing, damage added. Barriers (dijken) are breaking here in NL or threatening to. Limburg's water is at 21 NAP: that's 21 meters above sea level, my country is far below sea, we can only take so much to keep it out. If this had happened in my area (NL too) you can conclude my house would have been deep into the water x2 that's how high the water is compared to most houses. Stop asking why so many people died in our countries, we aren't prepared for this, our houses aren't build for this, it happened faster than expected, too much water in 48h for which we aren't known to have ESP IN SUMMER, water is stronger than anything even if some of us are known to defy the forces of water.
