Ordinary things that feel intimate || Accepting

"I've always been interested in military tactics, you know, and not just because Perikles adopted me, although I suppose that had something to do with it. As much as I would spend my boyhood shirking my education for the finer things in life, well, I did eventually come back around, which is why I'm so good at what I do. I like to go for the unconventional tactics, things that no one is expecting. The Athenians will surely know what they're missing, I assure you."

Alkibiades is half drunk as he speaks, deep in his cups and leaning against Stentor with flushed cheeks and a grin. He takes a deep breath and pushes himself back up, stumbling slightly but catching himself on the wall. "I know what I'm doing. I do. I swear I do. Just because I may not look like a stalwart Spartan and instead a pampered Athenian, well...it doesn't mean anything, does it?"

If he were sober, he might be embarrassed by the way Stentor seems to be hanging onto every word despite his drunken state. He lets out a sigh and sits down, pushing a hand through his hair. "Ugh..can I have more wine, please?"

There had been a party, a celebration of a hard won battle. Alaustra had refrained from any of the booze, hadn't touched the stuff since joining the monastery. Wish she had the tolerance for it to be just a little numbing, watching the intimate whispers and ghosting touches people were sharing made her own hands itch. The bards had elevated things even further, music loud enough to reach the Underdark.

Nobody had noticed when she skulked away to her tent, too engrossed in the atmosphere. They deserved the time to release the pent up anxiety, no hard feelings. She only managed to shuck off her overshirt when she heard the familiar shuffle of feet just outside, Wyll. No sooner had she turned to greet him he was before her with a hand out, a silent offer for a dance partner she'd never asked for. Ali fought the start of a smile at the corner of her lips, "Are you trying to throw me off guard?"

Regardless, she took his hand and placed it at the small of her muscular back - a vulnerable gesture from someone marred with scars. Spurred on by her movements, Wyll completed the connection between them and started to sway. It was nice, like this, alone. "It has been a long while since I danced in the courts...so forgive me.."

Deathless || Accepting

"Of course. All men die eventually, whether it be by nature or someone else's hand, perhaps even their own. Even you will die one day, Haytham. All they can do in the meantime is try to make something of their short, little lives. I've seen it time and time again. So I have to wonder...what will you do to make sure you're not forgotten, hm?"

Conall has been around long enough to know that mortals are desperate to not be forgotten, their names and deeds lingering like their own versions of ghosts. People who get written down don't become lost to history. Otherwise, one day the last person who knows you will die, too, and then you will truly be forgotten. Conall doesn't have to worry, of course, not for a long time yet. Many see immortality as a curse, but he has embraced it in its entirety. If he is to live for the foreseeable future, why not make the most of it?

"When you're like me, death doesn't really phase you anymore. I see so much of it all the time." He snorts and shrugs, downing the rest of his wine. "Death comes for all...except for me, and I intend on keeping it that way."

Eve’s smiled so much throughout the daythat she’s almost worried she’ll have a terribly achey face come the morning. But it’s hard to actually worry about that when she can see James is smiling just as much. She’s not sure anything else in her life has ever felt quite as right as marrying James.

This really is the happiest day of her life.

It’s late enough that she’s already lost James - her husband!! - to Felix and Alec on separate occasions, and has finally managed to regain him. There’s a quip about it being far too early for his eye to start wandering, which is met by a devilish grin as James pulls her back onto the dance floor. It’s a slow song now, something that Eve’s tired feet are grateful for as she wraps her arms around James’ neck and sways gently with the music. They watch each other silently for awhile, neither feeling any need for words. Honestly, Eve’s not certain she has the words to describe the warm feeling that’s been bubbling in her chest all day, or the way James has become her home over the past couple years.

Instead she leans up to press her lips against his quite chastely, though she doesn’t stop James from deepening the kiss. It’s slower now than earlier in the day, more tender, and Eve starts to wonder if she might explode from the love she feels for this man. When they pull away, after what feels like a lifetime but also mere seconds, Eve grins at him with a look she knows she would describe as disgustingly sappy on anyone else.

“I can’t believe you’re my husband,” she murmurs, letting that warmth finally bubble over as soft laughter, “how did I get so lucky?”

Growling suggestions || Accepting

"I do appreciate the offer, Stentor...but I can take care of myself, you know."

Alkibiades grins, one of the few times he's fully alert and sober. He's gotten over the initial shock of having to flee from his home, and he seems to have settled into Sparta quite easily. He's always been adaptable, but you have to be in order to succeed in any kind of battle. He didn't expect himself to become quite so smitten with Stentor, however...he thought it was nothing more than a passing fancy, like many of the people he falls into bed with, but...

But it scares him a little. It always does. He tries not to make it too obvious, even though he's sitting with his legs in Stentor's lap and his head resting against the wall. "I know we'll make a great team, though. Don't you think? Together, we'll make Sparta unstoppable."

She laughs at that, and when she rolls her eyes it’s entirely affectionate. She’s glad they’ve had this dinner, that she’s finally indulged his innuendo. It’s been a lovely evening only made better by the martini she now has in her hand.

“We both know that’s not true.” Even if her claim that she won’t entertain him making a move tonight is a lie, she’s hardly the worst liar he knows. She’s a spy after all. “It’s just called having self-control. You should try it some time, James.”

They'd promised to be honest with one another, at the beginning at whatever this was. You didn't just sneak around being touchy feely with the king himself without there being some sort of mutual communication. Being kept out of the loop caused unneeded tension. So Macbeth had every right to stand there in the middle of his quarters with a less than happy expression on his face, totally reasonable given the circumstances.

Wyatt's right hand was rudamentally wrapped up, and that in itself would have been fine. He ducked his head and kicked at the worn edge of the rug in front of him. "I thought perhaps.. they'd welcome me with open arms," they being his parents, who'd offered him the invitation to theirs in the first place. It didn't take a genius to figure out where exactly his injury came from when things were put into context.

Without thinking, he crossed the rest of the way and pushed himself into Macbeth's space, "I'm sorry.. that I didn't tell you what I was doing..." He finally gained the courage to look up, the distance between them close enough for him to press their foreheads together. A soft noise left his lips, some would have mistaken it for a whine "Please don't be angry with me.. for being so naive."
