We’ve made changes to our rules and application process—in short, Nightcall is now a semi-appless roleplay. On the one hand we really thought our application was straight-forward enough that it shouldn’t have been a deterrent. But while we’ve received no shortage of asks and reserves from our soft opening until now, very few of these have followed through.
We don’t want the application to be this huge obstacle. We don’t want people to feel bogged down or discouraged from the get-go and give up on a cool idea, because trust us, we’re psyched about your ideas and seeing them come to life!
So we replaced some things. Our new application process requires prospective members to submit a form containing basic fill-in-the-blank queries, a link to your muse’s profile page, and a writing sample. This sample can be anything: an original composition related to Nightcall, or an old starter thread you posted a year ago in a different community. If you are already a member of Nightcall and would like to apply for another muse, you may omit the sample and go forward with our base form. We’ve also taken the liberty of removing the muse limit; you may now have as many as you want and can handle.
You are of course free to write biographies for your muses—it just won’t be enforced on our end anymore. Our sole wish is to foster a community of writers who are excited about the verse, jump in the fray, and push their ideas long-term, on their own terms. We encourage people to embrace this shift as an opportunity to let yourselves run wild(er)—to challenge yourselves as writers not with an application and mandated word counts, but through interactions, narratives, and development. This is what we feel makes a worthwhile literate roleplay and what we’ve been striving for since Nightcall’s inception.
