with her headphones in, sage continued to look at her phone for directions on exactly which dress shop she had agreed to meet her client at. she was used to walking around in the city, although new to this particular area. but, what a client wants, sage makes happen. with her eyes glued to the screen, she tried to follow the semi confusing directions and voice speaking in her ear when suddenly, she bumped right into someone. the coffee in her hand, spilled, her headphones flew out, and her phone dropped right to the concrete. as she started gathering her belongings, she coughed out a few harsh breaths. “ i am so, SO sorry. i am such a klutz and truly shouldn’t be surprised that i’ve done something this embarrassing, but i swear i’m usually not this scatterbrained and this big of a mess ... ” she trailed off, looking at her cracked phone screen and spilled coffee everywhere. this was truly a new low for the wedding planner, wondering how unprofessional she will look to her client with a stained shirt and cracked phone she can barely read off of. sighing out, she finally collected her things ( and her thoughts ) and looked up to apologize sincerely, her cheeks red with embarrassment. “ wait -- i ...” it was HIM. she felt her entire body go slack, her knee’s buckling at the sight. it had been years since she’d last seen him. sage couldn’t even remember the last time she’d laid eyes on her best friend slash neighbor slash ... well, she didn’t even know HOW to classify him. “ you’re ... um ” she felt her mind go blank, images of their past flashing and distracting her. “ you look older. ” she felt her throat closing up, and her forehead begin to sweat. she couldn’t believe she’d just said that. of all things ? she chose to tell him he looked old.
