the above images are example of 4 different light techniques used in studio photography.
top main - is creative rim lighting, I find this style to be very effective in producing a moody atmosphere. I find the colour of the skin to be interesting. this technique is produced by having the light directly behind the subject/subjects.
bottom left - this is side lighting and again similar to above can produce a moody effect; the subject is coming out from the darkness. this technique is produced by placing the light at the side of the subject.
bottom middle - is 45 degree, I find this style of lighting to be effective in that on one side of the face there is what looks like a triangle between the nose and eye. this technique is produced by placing the light at a 45 degree angle above the subject of the right hand side.
bottom right - this is frontal lighting and is produced by placing the light in front of the subject either above or slightly below the subject.
bottom main - an example of a studio actor head shot. although the image is good it is bland in comparison to location photography
second image - this one is location head shot and as you can see has been taken out with the studio and outside. I like the location actor headshots as they are natural and organic and add more to the shot.
last image - this image represent a technique known as window light. I particularly like this image as a result of the shadows on the floor of both dancer and window.
