NCTA CEO presents NC House Speaker with prestigious award
NCTA held its annual #NCTechAwards this past November, honoring the top executives, companies and public leaders across the state. The awards, known as the Beacon Awards, were presented at a gala event held for the nominees and their guests. One of the most prestigious awards given is Public Leader of the Year.
Award recipients have shown proven leadership in the use of technology to advance North Carolina and/or has supported the innovation economy through public policy efforts. This past year’s winner was North Carolina House Speaker Tim Moore. Speaker Moore was unable to attend the event, so NCTA CEO Brooks Raiford made a special trip to the legislature to deliver the honor.
NCTA CEO Brooks Raiford had this to say about NC House Speaker’s efforts. “It’s reflective of the work that you’ve done and the support that you’ve given to the tech sector and the innovation community. From digital transformation of the schools, to broadband expansion in schools to tax policies, they really help the tech sector in North Carolina. We want to thank you for that leadership and we hope you’ll continue it.”
Speaker Tim Moore was honored to receive the award and made the following statement: “What you all do for the state is tremendous as technology is leading the way of our state’s economy, so I really appreciate the recognition, but more importantly I appreciate the hard work that you and others do.”
The 2017 awards will take place on November 9 at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Durham. The event features a cocktail reception, dinner and awards presentation. The nominations process begins mid-year. Stay tuned for a special announcement from NCTA with more information about this year’s award categories and important dates to remember. Learn more
