More than fashionably late, two sheets in the wind, and bubbling with Bad News, Stuart emerged from an Uber. Carrying a Santa-esque backpack and a twelve pack of Sam Smith Oatmeal Stout, he almost bellowed. "HO...HO...Hooooo...." A quick adjustment to the bag. "Krampus has arrived!"
Today, we celebrate yet another year of nation building. As we wave our flags and celebrate our successes, let us not forget the sacrifices of those who made Singapore what it is today. A fledgling but strong nation, we are extremely lucky to have access to clean water, a roof over our heads, peaceful relations and a safe environment we’re able to call home. Elsewhere, wars are breaking out and many remain entrapped in a vicious cycle of poverty amidst calamities and disasters. Let us not forget about those who are not as privileged and fortunate as we are; those who are facing imminent grave and real dangers.
From a third world nation to a glowing first world country with accolades and accomplishments spanning the better half of her fifty one years, Singapore has come a long way indeed. A great Thank You to those who have made it possible and let’s remember that we’re only strong when we’re united. Not only on national day, but everyday.
Happy 51st Birthday Singapore
