“Guyliner isn’t just for angsty teens! It’s for rock stars, actors, AND I don’t know. I’m sure there’s others.”
“Seeing as I’m neither a rock star nor an actor, I don’t believe rocking guyliner is the best idea. Doesn’t fit the uni professor vibe, does it.”

The nights were growing milder, aimless wandering under a moonlit sky almost enjoyable, if it were not for the constant silence. Where there was not a single soul to talk to, only the quiet rustling of dry leaves under a mild breeze could disturb what was otherwise an almost serene, if not utterly unnerving quiet. Thankfully, Phileas had developed his own way of dealing with it.
Occupying one of the crumbling stairs of the old amphitheatre, the pillar boy had settled down with his ukulele. Iraklis, as he had creatively dubbed the wild calico cat that had made itself a home in his house a few months ago, laid curled up on one of the higher levels nearby. Golden eyes observed each of Phileas' movements, ears twitching when he began to play a calm little melody. The music was by no means loud, but it almost felt as if the abandoned ruins were answering him in time - a soft echo filling the air with his lonely tune.
Gifts.

It had been a long shift. Two shifts, actually. She covered a second shift for another Healer and was finally trudging up the steps to her flat. She couldn’t wait to take her shoes off, change into pajamas and get some bloody sleep.
That, of course would all change once she unlocked her door and stepped inside.
She felt her jaw drop for a few quick moments before she turned to look at her door and the keys in her hand. It had been locked, hadn’t it? Surely she was so exhausted she had imagined unlocking it? Or had they made plans to get together and she’d forgotten?
“Merlin’s saggy tits – is there a sign on my door that says ‘all weird men welcome here’? Because I swear you’re not the first one to get inside when i’ve had my door locked.”
Not to mention she had more protections on her door to prevent stuff like this. What the bloody hell was even happening? Was this even reality anymore?
She placed her bright green healer’s robe on the back of her dining room chair and threw her keys and purse on the table.
“Not that I’m not happy to see you, Ben. Just..sorry. Long night. You, umm, you brought a gift? Any reason why?” She questioned as she put her plait back behind her shoulder and moved towards him.
“Happy Birthday!”
It was not, in fact, her birthday. Leviathan knew that, and Ginny certainly knew that he knew, seeing as they had talked about it only a couple of weeks ago. But what was time to a creature like him, and what was the human calender other than a torture device to decorate any other pointless day with some sort of meaning that did not exist?
The box was fairly large - wrapped in a dark blue paper speckled with hundreds of tiny golden stars and topped with an equally shiny bow - and he needed both of his hands to hold it. Somewhere from behind the demon, the pitiful wailing of a discontent cat rang through the closed bedroom door.
“Ah-- sorry about that, but she was kinda tryin’ to kill me so I had to lock her away for a little bit.” He grinned. “And I’m just here because, well, because of what happened at my place the other day. I guess I scared the shit outta you, and it wasn’t all that nice of a day, so I’m sorry. Plus I’ve heard things are crazy out there for doctors right now, so I thought maybe you could use a little pick-me-up? Here!” He held out the package for her.
“Take it. I also tried to make you some tea, but let’s not talk about the results of that. Terribly sorry. Maybe you should avoid the kitchen for a while. I’ll take care of it tomorrow though, don’t worry.”
@neartmhar SENT: ‘ i’m gonna replace every bone in my body with a knife, if someone punches me they’re in for a surprise (the knife) ’
A SNORT wanted to leave his nose but it did not. James did his best not to laugh out loud at her. Listening to Ginny speak was probably the highlight of his day so far -- “ How many people punch you on a daily basis? “ He asked, dark brows raising. Blue eyes dance with amusement. “ I certainly hope no one I know, for their sake. “

Something had gone wrong in wizarding London. Terribly wrong. The Doctor had known it from the second he had stepped out of the TARDIS into the dark dank of a cul-de-sac that attached itself to Diagon Alley because Time itself literally screamed Wrong!! at him. He’d tried leaving for a time, then going back. His time senses only screamed all the louder.
And then he was captured by those who called themselves Death Eaters, followers to a certain dark wizard lord, called himself Voldemort. Not that titles mattered. He’s seen their ilk before: Different context, same Story. Power hungry fanatics seeking to overthrow the current system and status quo in their favour, with victory right within reach to boot.
And that’s what was wrong with this time line, he realised with a groan as he pulled himself up to a sitting position in his cell. Lord Wants-to-Live-Forever wasn’t supposed to be winning this war. Someone had gone back in time and somehow had mucked around in just the right way to tip the scales in favour of the blood purists.
How he played into all of this mess was beyond him. He didn’t belong to Earth, never mind the Wizarding diaspora. But the winning side seemed convinced that he could be an instrumental key in their ultimate victory, and so they did what their sort always did: they asked him to join their fight, and when he had refused they sought to break him. Either into joining them or into giving them information (he honestly wasn’t paying all that much attention), but he didn’t care. All he knew was that he hurt, and that their magic left an awful taste in his mouth and didn’t agree with his biology.
He’s been their captive for weeks (he could probably discern the exact time down to the very second, but that would be too depressing). He’d tried escaping on several occasions, only to be caught and punished. They’d slowly stripped him of all of his gadgets (all he had left was his psychic paper, because there was no Othering way he was giving such an item to them). Everything else in his pockets was useless bric-a-brac.
He was fresh out of ideas. He wasn’t used to this magic. He didn’t have enough information nor the necessary tools to combat it. He’d tried using the words they uttered (once he’d caught on it was latin for the most part), but it all resulted in nothing. He was cut off from his ship. He had run out of tricks. And there was no one to rescue him. No one knew he was here. The only way he was getting out alive would be a miracle.
And for the first time in a long time, The Doctor cursed his superior biology and wished that this would end. (At this point, he’d even welcome Death).
neartmhar is one of my oldest writing partners in this fandom, and she is an absolute delight. Her Ginny is fantastic, her writing style is evocative, and she is so, so incredibly caring, and funny, and creative. I feel blessed to know her.

It was dark. Dark as the dead of night, as it tended to be when it was three in the morning. And it would have been a peaceful three-in-the-morning if not for Lu’s steady, incessant knocking on Ginny’s door. She knocked all the way until it opened under her fist, and when the witch was finally in front of Lu, she visibly eased, like someone who’d been running getting a good catch of breath.
❝I know that it’s late but hear me out- I’m starving.❞ The statement rested for a beat, and then she smiled her most I-love-you-don’t-kill-me smile. ❝I know at least one place open this early. It’ll be completely my treat. Please?❞
