So I took Kaya out, and the neighbor's super sweet pit bull was out, so we went to say hi and of course they do the doggie thing where they sniff, freeze, then bolt and chase each other. Nothing out of the ordinary right? That's when Kaya sends a huge chunk of dirt flying underfoot. And it starts moving on its own. She trampled a baby bunny and sent it flying. It got up and ran away, so I think it's okay, but still, jeez dog! And she didn't even notice. Too busy chasing her boyfriend.

So I hear Kaya rustling something while we're play testing Munchkinstuck, so I throw down my hand to chase her down. Turns out she stole a whole packet of oatmeal and a Klondike wrapper from the trash. We take it from her, and she runs to the room we were playing in, snatches up my whole friggin hand, and makes a mad dash with it. I cannot believe.

So Kaya was getting really worked up while we were practicing her tricks, and suddenly this huge centipede pops out from under the chair and Sami goes "Oh my god!" and points at it, telling Kaya to kill it. She immediately pounces on it, biting and stomping it, and Sami and I collapse in laughter. I knew she had a prey drive, but I didn't know we could activate it on bugs. Looks like her stinkbug incident taught her who the real enemy is.

I've started teaching Kaya to wear a harness and makeshift set of saddle bags so she can help us carry groceries from the car. It's going surprisingly well. She carried around three cans of green beans for a couple hours today, and she was actually pretty careful about handling them.

Kaya found a whole branch to run around with tonight. I wish the lighting were better so you could see how big it was.

I really appreciate Kaya. I know it sounds dumb, but I've always been afraid, even when the house is at peace. Afraid of noises in the night, afraid of the darkness that swallows my shadows as I come up from the basement. But ever since we got her, all of those stupid and irrational fears have been swept away. I can't even bring myself to grant the foggy nightblobs more than a cursory glance when I know she's around. I'm never alone now, and I take heart in her presence. I can't imagine life without her.
