Neils Children - The Night Is Over (Single) Unreleased/Rare
08/10/15
I watched these mod psychester’s turned goth punk revivalists during their first UK tour after hearing chaotic single ‘I Hate Models’, and was blown away. They were quickly hyped by the British music press, whom just as soon knocked them down harder than Ivan Drago by Rocky Balboa in the final round of the tournament. In 2007 they announced the release of ‘Pop:Aural’, their epic follow up to 2004′s ‘Change/Return/Success’, which was set to be the record to give the two fingers, though label battles commenced, perfectionist issues didn’t help; thus it never saw the light of day. ‘The Night Is Over’ was the stand out at 1234 Records free day out festival that year, and when I stumbled upon the track I was over the moon. It’s on par with The Rapture’s ‘House of Jealous Lovers’, that being a London take on New York’s disco rockers. I recommend this to anyone who loves slick post-punk played in the same vein as Gang of Four, A Certain Ratio, Josef K, and Modern English. This is dance punk at its best. Find this immediately.

NEiLS CHiLDREN are an English three-piece garage punk outfit who formed in 1999 at Harlow College in Essex, where members John Linger (guitar/vocals), Brandon Jacobs (drums) and Tom Hawkins (bass/vocals) were then studying. The band’s name came from Linger’s obsession with 1960s proto-punk band John’s Children; ‘Neil’ was the nickname of bassist Hawkins.
