❤️️The Power of Faith❤️️
Here I am with the second part of this themed week in “Let’s Listen to”! Today’s subject is the 39th single by the acclaimed visual kei band Plastic Tree, entitled Nenriki (Spirit) and released on 25th January 2017. The first release of the year revolves around a theme which is fundamental for this band’s concept, the power of faith, of having an idea and strongly believing on it, where an important question comes out: what we really should believe on? And now... let’s review!
-Nenriki: the title-track kicks off with a vibrant melody, enriched by strong electronic effects and a powerful rhythm, leading up to a dynamic rock sound; Ryutaro’s voice is at a standard level, suiting the theme of a really good song, balanced by the great instrumental part. ---> 9/10
-Creep: the b-side is introduced by Akira’s energetic guitar, developing up a fast and well rhythmed rock theme; Ryutaro uses suffused and whispered vocals, fitting with the style of this song, really simple and catchy. ---> 8.5/10
-Circus (Live arrange ver.): the single ends with a live version of the song coming out from their second album Puppet Show; Tadashi’s deep bass open the slow and idyllic theme, with Ryutaro’s voice which starts melodious and soft, becoming intense second per second; then the track evolves in a more piercing theme, with the guitar which goes from hard to soft in a blink and unpredictable tempo changes following up; an overwhelming live performance, good both for who knows the song and who didn’t know it at all. ---> 9/10
Final Vote ---> 9/10
Plastic Tree continue slowly, but with great class, their musical path and starting their 2017 with a quite good single. Where Silent Noise, released last year, was more idyllic and featured a touch of nostalgia, in Nenriki the atmosphere is definitely more rhythmical and energetic, with slight variations inside it. The most notable things in the release are the vocal interpretation of Ryutaro Arimura, who is becoming more and more mature in each new release (the live version of Circus can be taken as the best example of this development) and the great attention to the technique, well balanced by the single instruments. So this band started the new year in the style which always characterized them, strong, compelling, without any complication. A single for who loves Plastic Tree’s music, even in its faster and more energetic shades.
That’s all folks! See you in the next part of the themed week, in “Throwback Thursday”!
Thanks for the reading!
