Nephrolepis Exaltata
Common Name: Sword Fern, Wild Boston Fern
Origin: Central and South America , Africa, Polynesia, West Indies
Identification: The fronds of the Nephrolepis exaltata can grow from 50 cm up to 250 cm in height and usually 6-15 cm wide. The deltoid pinnae growing from the fronds grow alternately and are typically 2-8 cm long.
Information: The N. exaltata is a species of perennial fern belonging to the Lomariopsidaceae family, or in its own family Nephrolepidaceae (it is still uncertain whether they belong to the Lomariopsidaceae family). In its natural environment it grows in humid places such as swamps and forests and is native to tropical regions throughout the world.
Growing Tips: The N. exaltata and its cultivars grow well indoors. It generally likes damp soil but should not stand in water. When the humidity is quite low, it should be misted. During the winter it requires less watering. It should be fed liquid fertilised about once every 3 weeks. Indoors it prefers partial shade to full shade.
