Looking back, I do not know how I contained my rage when a guy in our group presented "his" work for our FINAL PROJECT. It was probably only because of the smug satisfaction I got at the same time.
The professor had said we could "use A.I.," but only cuz he's not an artist at all, and thought he had to let us use whatever "new tools" were available to us. As if A.I. stolen art generated output is acceptable industry standard above the level of these shitty tumblr ads.
This guy, an architect, "generated" a house... with ONLY a front view, not even an elevation.
It was impossible, space-wise. And hooorribly fuzzy quality to try to hide the shittiness. (I render in 4K. This thing looked like 256. Made my work look more impressive though, ig.)
During presentation, WE were asked things like, "Where does that path go?" "How does that shrubbery go? Or is that a path?" "Is that a room there or not?" "Why don't the rooves match?" "Why are the windows different / uneven / not centered?" "Why are there different columns?"
During presentation, you MUST be able to answer ALL questions about WHY you did something, because -supposedly- YOU *DESIGNED* IT. Which means, accident or mistake or choice, EVERYTHING is presented as YOUR DECISION. You either answer your reason, or bullshit a reason.
If it's during the semester or just progress, then you can be honest about what difficulties programs were giving you. Then you can get feedback to go back and use.
FINAL presentation is FINAL.
Although some professors are more open to still talk about *new to you* program difficulties & limitations. Still, what you present is *your* *best* *work.* That should still be feasible & usable.
Covid did kill even this good part of our work culture. I burned out, too, bit I think everyone went wayyy too lenient on what was acceptable. Lower stress & less expectations is one thing, but they buried the bar.
This kid kept answering, "Oh. I dunno." "That's just what it output." "Yeah that's weird." Other group members offered ideas, !during presentation!, that "Maybe it's like this?" "Maybe that's supposed to be the pathway?"
I stood there silent during this section, just trying to control my face. Ohhh, well, hah, I already spoke so much about the story and several different options of specific backstories, but each thought out, (it was a prequel to Pan's Labyrinth concept pitch, so open-ended was fine), & then my concept renderings AND PROCESS of a seaside cove with specific rock type and steps down to it and sunlight glowing through under the water from where the mouth opened to the outside and refraction on the walls.
Let him defend his "decisions" AI made for him.
I should look up his name again. Don't ever cross a bridge or go into a building this guy may "design."
So if you're curious if I bite people's heads off irl over AI, I might. But I will definitely not respect you or ever believe anything you say or do. Cuz presenting AI generated images as your own "work" does make you scum.
Even nVidia's presentation at SIGGRAPH was aware & explicitly said that straight AI output is garbage, that AI "art generators" violate copyright, & that AI's place is for crowd simulation and massive landscapes and imperfection randomization.
Forever pissed that every time I try to learn Maya, I only run into issues of what it CAN'T do. Not just different labels or hotkeys, just cannot do them. Like what do you mean it's key + move mouse + click mouse to change views??? How is that faster than pressing F, T, L, or B? Or my customized for Right I, & Back K? 3 of those are with my forefinger not even leaving the home row. I don't know yet if I can edit the hotkeys to make those things happen, if there's not already any kind of commands like that =/ Still can't find an equivalent of Swiftloop. Connect supposedly can't pinch or slide. No one will even give me a straight answer on how to auto-generate 4-or-more-legged walk cycles like CAT does in Max. Ah, well, at least Autodesk gave Maya an auto-retopo around the same time as Max at least; shocker. Great, ya got Blend Shapes & blue pencil for animation, but can you model anything??? Okay, I found how to edit the hotkeys, & I could do commands for switching views, but most of the letters I would use are already taken by important things. Whatever. I don't think I'll ever really find myself modelling in here then.
The more I ask things like, "Swiftloop in Maya like Max has?" & find things like "here's a convoluted way to do that with limitations, that technically corresponds to something else, still can't slide or pinch or increment."
...why should I model there again? 😩

I could have fallen grovelling at that 🥺🥳 I got the rambling disconnected mess (where she's unhinged AND wrong but exaggerating even where she's right but what she's wrong about is that he was not trying to assault her in the previous scene but she believed he was so it's a sensitive issue & *I* had to believe he was) - put it through google docs & chunked it all out & added my emphasis & picked the operative words - and IT WORKED 🙏🙏🙏 I made this explosive mess make SENSE? oh thank god 😭 Shakespeare spoken quickly makes more sense to begin with.
