NEW FOR SALE; $10 + free shipping; VM= @Raphael-Griswold PP= [email protected]; Net Pamphlet 3 (Black Black); 2-color double-sided offset french fold pamphlet/poster with hole punch; 4.25 x 5.5 folded, 11 x 17 open; edition of 90; Lately I’ve been working with “nets”; grids with centers cut out, removing information to activate extraneous information at the edges, thinking about how things are connected. This booklet began as pair of watercolors made on I made these drawings with a ballpoint pen on a little french fold booklet I kept in my pocket. I wanted to print it in two colors that would combine to make both ballpoint pen blue/black and basketball brown. I also looked for colors that would be high-contrast when the registration on my old rickety press got out of wack (which is why the edition is so small.) I punched a hole in the corner of the booklet so that you could pin it up without being worried about damaging it. The punch pattern is also possibly a network. This booklet began as pair of watercolors I made while sitting in a field in Bovina, NY. I worked on it two days in a row at sunset and left it outside to get dewed and rained on. I wanted to explore murkiness, and so chose to transform the drawing into an offset print made with two layers of black ink: a yellow-tinted black and a magenta black. From far away it looks gray, because my sheetfed press with one printing head is designed to put down a light application of ink, which can be built up as you do four-color process printing or add hits of black. Up close you can see the two black shades as well as lots of other noise and marks hidden in the nets, fingerprints and scratches, smudges and stuff. I punched a hole in the corner of the booklet so that you could pin it up without being worried about damaging it. The punch pattern is also possibly a network. Lately I’ve been working with “nets”; grids with centers cut out, removing information to activate extraneous information at the edges, thinking about how things are connected. For this booklet/poster I wanted to learn how to create ranges of colors in offset printing, emphasizing edges and holes. I punched a hole in the corner of the booklet so that you could pin it up without being worried about damaging it. The punch pattern is also possibly a network.
