Networking 101: Introduction to opportunities
The world is getting smaller and smaller and we are all connected through people. The design community in New York City is especially small, and many times introduction can lead to great opportunities and friendships.
Through introduction from Liz Danzico, I met Sam Potts and Jason Santa Maria, who mentored me with planning for my Skillshare workshops. Amit Pitaru also helped me to meet Zach Lieberman and Taeyoon Choi.
My summer opportunity was also through introduction. For the summer, I wanted to work at somewhere I can do social good design. I remembered that my classmate, Meghana Khandekar, worked at UNICEF before the graduate school, so I asked her if she knows someone I can speak to. She sent an introduction e-mail to the director of UNICEF Innovation unit, Chris Fabian (who made 2013 Times 100 list with co-director, Erica Kochi). Week later, I was on a Skype call with Chris, who was at Uganda, and was offered a fellowship at UNICEF Innovation unit this summer.
I am really excited for my summer fellowship and hope to learn a lot. I am always thankful of the people around me who are always willing to share their network with me.
