If You Are Carrying a Pizza Box You Can Get Into Any Building
If You Are Carrying a Pizza Box You Can Get Into Any Building
Photo Credit – Andre Callot The experimental performance world and the new play development racket are on two sides of the tracks. Nary the twain shall meet. I talk to both of them and feel like a child of a bad divorce, wishing they would talk more to each other. The experimental world is acknowledging the live event, transcending narrative, finding new forms, and touring Europe. The new play…

October is the Month for Craziness!
So October is here and it always seems to me to be the month I'm in costume more than not. That was certainly true last year. So far this month I've already spent one afternoon as Winnie the Pooh. And with New York Comic Con happening this weekend...well you never know...
New York Comic Con
Speaking of which, if you're at NYCC this weekend, come find me on Friday or Sunday! I'll most likely be hanging out at the Vampire Cowboy booth (#3340) or the Comic News Insider booth (#3350) located very close to each other for your convenience! Can't make it? Well let me explain what both these wonderful booths are for... The Vampire Cowboys are an Obie Award Winning theater company here in the city that I've been lucky enough to work with on multiple occasions They do great original work, full of geeky references and lots of stage combat, and really are just a whole bunch of fun. They will be promoting their next show "GEEK!' which will be playing next March! And Comic News Insider is a great weekly podcast that covers comic books, and other geek things like tv shows, movies, etc. My buddy Jimmy Aquino, who is the host, gets a lot of awesome interviews and does a wonderful job of keeping the talk to a layman level. Seriously, pretty much everything I know about comics is thanks to this guy. I even got to co-host about a week or two back. If you feel like giving it a listen, you can find it on i-tunes (Episode #436) or get it here.
ALICEGRACEANON
Now to the exciting part of the month. I'll also be in tech this weekend for my latest show I've been working super hard on for the past 3 weeks! I'm the choreographer and assistant director for this original show produced by New Georges, written by Kara Lee Corthron and directed by Kara-Lynn Vaeni, and I can honestly say it's different than anything else I've ever done. Do you like Jefferson Airplane, Lewis Carroll, and 60's happenings? Then this is the show for you! It combines the worlds of Grace Slick (lead singer for Jefferson Airplane), Alice in Wonderland, and the title character from Beatrice Sparks' fictional memoir Go Ask Alice. There's a live band that will be jamming at the show so get there early, enjoy some of the interactive aspects in the "lobby", get a drink and enjoy the ride. Previews start on the 18th and the show opens on the 23rd and runs through Nov. 9th. Tickets are $25 with $10 Tuesdays. The performances are at the beautiful Irondale Center off the Atlantic Ave stop in Brooklyn. For more info and for tickets: http://www.irondale.org/index.html.
Veronica's Halloween Bash!
You may remember my post from July about a little musical I was choreographing called Bombshell Baby starring the lovely Veronica Garland. Well this creative crew is at it again and have somehow not only convinced to me to choreograph some of it, splitting the evening with my co-choreographer Shiloh Klein, but to dance and *gulp* sing in it as well. The evening is set up as a party with musical sets and an open bar all night. The first act of the evening will be selections from Nightmare Before Christmas, followed by selections from the short-lived Carrie the Musical. And the grand finale of the evening will be a modest staging of one of geek fandom's favorites, the Buffy Musical: Once More With Feeling, in which I will be playing the role of Dawn. And fear not, this won't impose on your Halloween plans as it will be taking place on the 29th, which, yes, is a Monday, but let's be honest... in this city, the whole week is a celebration. So come in costume ready for an evening of spooky, campy fun! (Did I mention the open bar?) Tickets are $25 at the door. Mon. Oct. 29th, 7pm. Medicine Show Theater, 549 W 52nd St. btwn 11th and 12th
