Studying physics with my beloved kitten <3
I haven't been feeling well lately but I'm kinda back on track studying Bio
Soo today I had to do a (surprise!!) literature test which I never expected but it was quite predictable so silly me.. I had to analyze a poetry I had never read before and I just discovered I got it all wrong ahhhh why is Italian literature so hard to understand??
I hope you had a better day!
Hi there, I am Mi. Welcome to my studyblr!
About me
[ Mi ♀ / INTJ-T / 16 / Italy ]
I attend an high school for science and maths which I enjoy but it is really not that exciting, hence I try to brighten it with cute stationery and pretty notes. I love drawing and artsy stuff, I am a hip hop dancer and a self-taught not-so-good pianist.
It is really okay to random message me about literally everything- I am a good listener and an open minded person ❤⃛⁎ˇ◡ˇ⁎⋆✩⃛⁎
if you are considering online classes, doing online classes or just curious, this is the post for you.
as most of you know, I’m taking Latin and PE online over the summer to gain some extra credits early. I fell behind for a little while, but I’m back on top.
Issues You May Run Into
It’s easy to lose your motivation, but that shouldn’t discourage you from taking online classes. I began Latin at the beginning of summer and I finished like 25% of it in a week. My work slowed but it continued until I got to 59% and it kind of just sat there. Online classes are incredibly different from traditional classes because you don’t have a teacher breathing down your neck to make sure you work. It’s up to you to stay motivated
The Solution
Keep logging into the website. I really noticed I had lost motivation when I logged into my laptop and realized it had been a week since I had done class work. I didn’t just drop everything and finish the class but I made it a point to just start getting on the website everyday. I don’t even do assignments everyday, but I have to log in. It’s okay to just take 25 minutes and read a lesson or two. As long as you are on the website, practicing.
It can be really easy to fall behind on your work. Sometimes you lose your motivation but can’t independently fix it. That’s okay! But when you don’t fix it fast enough, before you know it, you are modules behind and it’s almost August. No matter how far behind you are, giving up the class is never the answer. Dropping the class will put a 0 in the book and even the most extreme case of falling behind and realizing it too late will still be better than zero. That kind of made no sense. I’ll explain further in the solution.
The Solution
Do not give up. Once you hit the point of no return, dropping the class is not an option. No matter how far behind you are and how little time you have left, any score you get will be better than the score you would get if you just quit. If you only have a few weeks left in the class and you are really far behind, work as hard as you can those few weeks. Only getting to 80% done is still much better than giving up at 47%.
Ask someone to remind you to do your work everyday. Studyblrs offer a wide variety of ages, but almost everyone is living with somebody. Whether it is your mom, dad, boyfriend, girlfriend, brother, sister or room mate, ask them to remind you to get on your class. If you know you have 0 willpower have them make you give them your phone for an hour.
You get distracted while you study/ work. I ran into this problem a lot when I first began. I would open up a tumblr tab while opening FLVS. This was for those “five minute breaks” that I had via the pomodoro method. Those five minutes quickly turned into at least 15 minutes.
The Solution
Just because you are on a device to do your work, does not mean you can’t limit your access to distractions. A free chrome extension, Forest, is perfect for this. It’s purpose is to discourage surfing the web while you work. You click the timer for 25 minutes, for example, and it will grow a little tree and after 25 minutes the tree is grown. But if you go on a website you shouldn’t the tree dies. This is strangely motivating to do your work :)
Turn your wifi off of your computer. If you are working on a word document to upload to your class, the internet will be unnecessary. If you have all of your resources on paper.
It can feel like you aren’t really learning from your class. I had this issue a lot torward the beginning. When you have all of your online resources right infront of you, it can be tempting to not even read them. I would just switch from my worksheet to my Latin dictionary and then not understand why I knew basically nothing about Latin. Though there aren’t any issues with this on my GPA, it still really upset me.
The Solution
Read everything. Even if you know you can refer back to the lesson during the work and tests, you should still read all of the information. It will be impossible to learn anything if you only read what you absolutely have to.
Write your notes on paper. I did all of my notes on OneNote in the beginning, which is great! If it works for you. I have trouble retaining information from notes on a screen. I started doing notes by hand and I felt like I learned sooo much more.
You get anxious during DBA’s. A DBA is a “discussion based analysis” and I don’t know about anyone else, but talking to the teacher I’ve never met before on the phone while they give me a test is dreadful. Nothing necessarily bad really happens, but between not being able to really understand them and the stress to perform, is nothing short of anxiety causing.
The Solution
Realize that your teacher wants you to do well. Your teacher isn’t trying to stress you out or cause you to mess up, they just want to make sure you are doing well. They want to see your progress beyond numbers on a computer screen and that’s understandable.
Take a breath. If you are getting overwhelmed ask your teacher for a moment. As previously mentioned, they do not want you to have an anxiety attack because they stress you out. Take a moment to think over the question and return.
honestly I feel like this post was more for me than anyone else. my classes have been stressing me out and if i can take my trial and error and use it to help someone else, i will in a heart beat.
Hi there! You’ve probably heard the term “study less, study better” and that is honestly such a good mindset!
Before I start, I’d like to disclaim that my study methods may not be as efficient to you as they are to me. Just like note taking methods, some just aren’t for everybody. I’ve taken this into consideration and obtained some online resources to aid me.
Before You Begin
Start with a positive attitude; studies show that you retain more when you are relaxed and happy. You are more likely to remember your notes if you are enjoying reading them. So take a breather while you are dreading those notes and think about how good it is to study, how you’ll feel when you ace a test, or just answer a question correctly in class.
Find a quiet place to study. Already have a nice desk? Well bam you’re in luck. Have a desk but five loud siblings? That’s okay too! You can do your work at a library, a cafe, or even in your bedroom. Just being able to focus on the task at hand is your goal.
Whether you are home or going out, gather all of your supplies. Studying is all about focus. Every time you have to get up to find a supply you are loosing your focus and have to work to get back to the moment of focus you were in. If you gather your supplies before hand you will save time and promote an effective study session
Light a scented candle; put on some classical music. Though, putting on Mozart is a heavy cliche, studies show it’s better than listening to music with words. You can’t really listen to someone talk to you while you are focusing on your lit. notes, much less deal with someone singing to you. If you put on instrumentals of music you like, you will still have a similar problem; your mind will still be thinking about the words and not the notes you are studying. Lighting a candle will help relax the atmosphere while heightening your senses, so this is always a great idea.
Realize that doing your homework isn’t studying. Doing your homework will probably help you prepare for the content you’ll be covering in class, but it isn’t studying. Finish your homework and review the notes you took in class. This will help you retain the information you learned in class. Lectures don’t really stick with you by themselves, so it’s up to you to make sure you learn the information.
Create a study plan! Every online resource I’ve used has specifically mentioned this. It can be an Excel spreadsheet or just a piece of loose leaf paper, but plan out when you are studying. Maybe allot 25 minutes to that work sheet you were assigned in class, then a five minute break, and then 25 minutes of reviewing notes.
Time To Study
Practice time management. As previously mentioned, a 25/5 method is good. This is called the Pomodoro method. It says that you can’t maintain optimum focus for more than 25 consecutive minutes. Every 25 minutes, take a five minute break. This time you don’t burn yourself out after 30 minutes.
Use various methods of studying. Make an outline of the lecture notes you took in class, make flash cards, take a practice exam, make some mnemonic devices if you’re trying to memorize work, do all of the above if you’d like. Adding variety is always a good idea, because it keeps it interesting.
Take healthy breaks. Eating an apple is a much more satisfying break than five minutes of instagram. You will be more likely to return to studying in a positive manner if you do some exercise or eat healthy foods, as opposed to five minutes of tv or internet.
Keep learning it until it is over learned. Though this sounds ineffecient, this helps beat out recognition, or needing a stimuli (which may not be on the test) to remember, with recollection, knowing the information. A student who does not review material can forget 80% of the content learned in two weeks.
My name is Justine and I’m a new studyblr!
Prologue: I have been lurking around, observing studyblrs for quite a while. I really love the ambition and enthusiasm to learn. It really inspired me to try harder in school, and to really embrace the fact that I love to learn. People in this environment will not shame you for your ambition or aspiration, they encourage you. That was something I really found amazing, as a kid from a town where every girl thinks it is cute to act dumb. I finally gathered courage to introduce myself.
Who I am: My name is Justine, I am 14. I am attending ninth grade in the fall. In grades 6th-8th I attended the Cambridge Pre-Aice Program. In eighth grade I obtained four high school credits, based on a 24 credits to graduate program. In all honors courses, I had a 4.4 GPA. I am now taking Latin and Health and Physical Education as summer courses. When I begin ninth grade I will be doing all tenth grade classes.
My upcoming schedule: As school resumes in August I will begin a new set of courses. I will be taking Geometry Honors, Biology Honors, AP European History, English 2 Honors, Medical Skills and Biomedical Principles. I am incredibly excited to begin my medical programs.
My advanced programs: As previously mentioned, I was in the Cambridge Pre-Aice program for three years. At my three tier middle school, you could be in regular courses, advance courses or Cambridge courses. Cambridge was basically skipping a grade and preparing you for college prep programs. Now, in this school year, I was accepted into an Early College program where I will be given the opportunity to graduate at 18 with my AA.
Aspirations: I plan on majoring in neuroscience to become a nuerosurgeon. I plan to obtain my AA in highschool, finish my premed at University of Florida. For medical school, I would like to go to University of Pennsylvania, University of Miami or Washington University. I’d like to practice in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington), Pennsylvania or maybe Florida.
Inspiratations:
