MoMA Reopens

I hadn’t been to the MoMA in a while but I heard it went through a huge renovation and had closed for months, and the re-opening day I happened to be in NYC so I checked it out. The renovation added a lot more gallery space and I spent hours going through all the floors. It definitely feels bigger and less cramped than before. Luckily they still had most of my favorite pieces on view. There were also plenty of new-to-me artists and a mix of the weird and wacky.

If you’re planning to go, buy your ticket online! There was such a long line (literally snaking all the way down an entire city block) and I heard a staff member directing people who had bought a ticket online all the way to the front. I asked her if I could just buy it right then on my phone and she said yes, so I did that and a minute later I walked up to the front and passed by everyone.

The above painting is called Manchester Valley. I loved it, it captures New England fall so perfectly.

In college I wrote a paper specifically about this piece, Woman I by Willem de Kooning. Isn’t it just crazy and fascinating? It’s even better in person. I miss the days of my art history classes! I remember just standing in front of this painting for a good 40 minutes taking in everything and scribbling notes on a piece of paper.
