US Patent Office grants MSR Innovations patent for SolTrak™
The US Patent Office granted MSR Innovations a comprehensive patent for its SolTrak™ modular solar roofing system in August 2012. A matching Japanese patent was awarded several months later. The BC-based company expects to receive similar patents from other countries in the coming months.
The patents cover a variety of features of the SolTrak system,as well as allowing for a number of technologically advanced designs, configurations and manufacturing techniques. These patents include two unique innovations developed by MSR for its SolTrak modular solar roofing system.
The first being the tiles themselves - comprised of polymer, these roofing tiles can have PV solar cells embedded directly in the tiles. The second feature is a proprietary track mounting system that is easily installed and allows the tiles to be snapped into place without using any tools. These patents will give MSR Innovations a secure foundation for future innovative designs.
In addition to further validation of SolTrak’s innovation, the patents ensure MSR Innovations a position of market leadership as it establishes its product offerings in the residential solar market. After being granted UL1703 Certification and the CSA/US Mark by the CSA Group in June 2012, these patents also provide homeowners and homebuilders with confidence in the quality and future of the SolTrak system.
