Article: Louis Tomlinson shows support for NHSvoices’ charity single
July 6th, 2018: Yesterday Louis Tomlinson RTed a tweet from NHSmillion announcing the release of the single “With a little help from my friends”. All the money raised from downloads of the single will go to NHS charities in celebration of NHS 70 years anniversary. The tweet shows Louis holding up a sign with the title of the song, the hashtag #NHSvoices and that the download would be available starting from July 6th.
The song was recorded as a collaboration, called NHSvoices, between artists such as Guy Garvey, Nile Rodgers, Engelbert Humperdinck, Petula Clark and Blue, and the Greenwich NHS Choir.
The NHSvoices was founded by NHS children doctor Katie Rogerson and NHS manager Joe Blunden. The team now includes other members including Kat Aylwin who is the only non-NHS staff member of the team and who is a music industry expert. NHSvoices released its first single called Bridge Over You in 2015. Bridge Over You was a mashup of Simon and Garfunkel’s Bridge Over Troubled Water and Coldplay’s Fix You and intended to raise awareness on the dispute over junior doctors’ hours. Bridge Over You reached number 1 on Christmas Day 2015 even beating Justin Bieber’s single. Justin Bieber actually asked his fans to buy Bridge Over You. He tweeted “Let’s do the right thing and let them win. It’s Christmas.”
NHSvoices is part of NHSmillion, a non-profit campaign started by the employees of NHS, the England National Health Service. The campaign was started in response to recent financial pressure and negative press experienced by NHS, which have the potential to negatively influence the public perception of the National Health Service. The aim of the campaign is to create a superteam of a million people who want to celebrate all the good that NHS does every day for million of patients across the country.
By RTing the NHSmillion’s tweet, Louis Tomlinson exposed this project by NHSvoices to his 30+ million followers, likely increasing the downloads of “With a little help from my friends”. If you want to download the song and help NHSvoices support NHS charities, click on this link.
