Just came from your rehabilitation fic and it's truly great writing, I love it a lot! That being said, I would like to file this petition:

what do you think lex's motives were in the movie?

Lex in the movie that's a great question!

I think the ultimate tragedy of Lex is how nothing is ever enough for him. He might be the smartest, richest, most successful man alive, but the only thing he wants is more. Superman doesn't represent an existential threat to humanity, he represents an existential threat to Lex's ego.

I think we see this unfold the most clearly during the first fight with Ultraman. By studying Superman close enough to counter his every move, Lex shows that if he were super strong and super fast, he'd win every time. He needs that validation. Without it, he'd have to admit he's lesser. But he can't do that, because being the best is the only thing he cares about. I do think he is xenophobic and that allegory works well. It ties in that he's trying prove (mostly to himself) that Superman isn't better than him.

Ultraman works as a surrogate, but the high of that victory doesn't last. Because Superman gets back up. He might have lost, but he isn't defeated. Lex needs to see him destroyed, because is very existence is a threat to Lex's sense of self.

To me, that's why he cries at the end. Because he did everything. He tried everything. And Superman was still better. Lex will always be second best and he will never be able to overcome the difference. So that's why I'd call it tragic, because that kind of emotional deficiency isn't something he can easily fix. He will continue to suffer knowing he lost and knowing all his hard work amounted to nothing.

All that to say his motivations are mostly caught up in the narratives he tells himself about himself. Anyway, I rambled more than I expected! But I'm sure there are other good takes around ❤️ These are just my light thoughts.

Kinktober is all finished up! It's been a helluva ride

Very curious to see how Lex's rehabilitation goes given he currently seems to be actively getting worse! Love it though, whump his bald ass!

I can't wait for some of the things I have cooking for him~! When I started planning out the fic, it was important to me that Clark and Lex truly are enemies at the beginning. Obviously Lex still has all his Lex burning desire obsession for Superman. And Clark's been through a few things (he's getting whumped on the side sorry Clark).

Having the square one start makes the rehabilitation/character development for Lex feel that much sweeter to me. The first step for him is probably internalizing that Superman isn't so bad (off to a rough start on that one LOL). There will definitely be some setbacks along the way, but they'll get there in the end ❤️
