Circa December 2012: I was curious to see the retail side of Niketown during the holidays and get to know the people who worked on the running floor in light of having to rely on their assistance for setting up RunClub. Given the approval and warm welcome to the 2nd floor by Angela, Alexis, Che, I was issued a trusty mpass (?)(Niketown folks will remember that device) and set out onto the 2nd floor mens running wearing a simple ID badge. It took me awhile to get a hang of using the mpass, but due to the patience of Lawrence (a mainstay employee on the floor and really knowledgeable runner) I got the hang of selecting shoes from stockroom in the basement. I even talked apparel to the mainly foreign tourists. I knew product and had some experience in distance running. That seem to count for the folks who peppered me with questions about running just to see if I really did have any knowledge. Did I set sales records? No. Did I make new friends and get to know my fellow employees? Yes. This was the point. The whole nature of the business, the interaction with customers I discovered was not so intimidating. My experience as a Run Club pacer put me at ease on dealing with a variety of people and fielding questions, no matter how left field they were. In following years, the Run club pacers would work a stint at the store when new staff wear would get issued; half the day finding the staff wear and half the day tidying up product, trying not getting in the way, and avoid chatting too long with our friends who were the floor leads. 😂 📷: @biznezninja #niketownnyc https://www.instagram.com/p/CIWgc1JHZhm/?igshid=1io21mf3uoiv8
