Let's take a look at what happened this week: Learned more of the Bach Cello Suite No. 3. Met Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri. Missed Monday's Men & Masculinities class due to me forgetting about the paper I had due that day. Worked myself into exhaustion that made my mom not want to talk to me because of my state of being. That was the week of extreme tiredness and extreme fanboying.

I'm almost ashamed to be an American!

FIRST - I'd like to congratulate Nina Davuluri on being crowned Miss America, it truly saddens me that her win was followed with such negative responses.

After the two articles I just read, I'm almost ashamed to be an American and represent this country in pageant systems. This past Sunday, Nina Davuluri was crowned Miss America 2014, but she did not receive the congratulations she deserved due to the unfortunate ignorance of some Americans.

You see, Nina is of Indian descent, this simply means that her family is originally from India. That's all! In order to even be eligible to compete for Miss America she is required to be a natural born citizen of the United States, therefore no matter what nationality she is, she's an American!

Some of the tweets in response to Nina's win reference various things such as:

Miss America being an Arab

Miss America being a foreigner

Al-Qaeda

This is just pure ignorance, and it disgusts me that "Americans" can be so blatantly racist, unintelligent, and just plain rude! I'm even more offended by these responses because I work with Indians daily and they are some of the most generous and sincere people I have ever met. I also compete in pageant systems representing 'America' but I'm so disappointed that this is how we treat a beautiful American citizen who absolutely earned the title of Miss America and everything the MAO stands for.

Here's some obvious facts for those of you who reacted so ignorantly:

India is NOT an Arab country

the native language of India is NOT Arabic

Al-Qaeda is NOT in India

descent means "nationality"

Nina Davuluri is a natural born US citizen

PS - All Americans come from a foreign descent or have a foreign nationality unless you are a Native American.

I don't even know what else to say to this ...... this is like one of those moments on Girl Code where I end with "I JUST CAN'T" .... only this is a far more serious subject.

SHAME ON YOU AMERICA! Unless you did not react in this way and/or are slightly more intelligent to know better, then you are excluded from this rant.
