Daryl usually woke up around dawn. He learned when he was a child that it was better to be out of the house before his father got up. It developed into a habit that was very helpful in the apocalypse when you had to get as much done as possible before sunset. Today, however, he wanted nothing more than to stay in bed with the man he loved. He'd never admit it, but he loved the feeling of Paul’s chest against his back and his arms wrapped around him, it made the bowman feel safe and wanted. It didn’t take long before he felt restless, so without distrubing Paul, he carefully slipped out of bed. He knew no one else would be awake right now and, thanks to the recent trade with Hilltop, he didn’t have to hunt, so decided to take a quick shower. After, he headed into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee. Paul must have woken up sometime during his shower, because he saw Paul through the window, practicing his ninja stuff in their backyard. He’s seen how well Paul faught, but Daryl didn’t need to use any of that, he’s been in plenty of fights before and gotten by just fine. He made a cup for Paul and went outside to smoke, giving the other a small smile when he saw him. Placing both cups on the small patio table, he sat down in one of the chairs and lit a cigarette.
“You get ‘em yet, Ninja Master?” Daryl teased playfully, taking a drag of his cigarette.

Tara let out a small sigh. “I sure hope so.” It wasn’t like her to care that much about Eugene’s requests, but, the man hardly visited the Hilltop-- so, when accompanied with Aaron, Tara felt she had to oblige to said request. “Don’t know why he can’t find his own parts--” She looked down at the piece of paper Eugene had given her. He had drawn what they were looking for. “Yet, here we are.”

It was supposed to be an easy run, that's why it was only her and Jesus that went to check the vet clinic Eugene assured could have some more than necessary supplies for the communities, though he used more complicated words, some that Connie hadn't been able to lip read. But Jesus had been kind enough to put it on simpler, easier to lip read words for her.
Eugene was right on one thing, the vet clinic had all of the medicine that he'd written on the list as the ones that could also be used on humans, along with stuff like syringes, needles and bandages. What Eugene had failed to predict was that the smell of the long dead animals left behind that was trapped in the building until they opened the door would attract some unwanted visitors.
That's how they ended up locked in the cleaning supplies closet while a bear ripped the cages open and feasted on what was left of the poor dead pets.
Connie couldn't hear, but the tiny window in the closet let enough light in for her to see the faces Jesus was making, and that was enough for her to know that the bear was turning the place upside down. She hugged the canvas bag a little tighter and squeezed her eyes shut, mentally praying to the skies that the animal would not take any special interest in the closet.
She felt Jesus hand touch her arm and didn't give it much thought given the cramped space they were in. But then it happened a second time, and this time Connie could tell it was intentional. She opened her eyes, looking up at him and realizing he was doing his best attempt at giving her a comforting smile despite looking quite nervous about the situation.
"We will be–" she watched him sign, and she knew that the word he meant to sign was okay, but the way he held his hand with the back of it facing her conveyed a whole different sign.
Jesus' expression turned to confusion when Connie clasped a hand over her mouth, muffling her laughter. It took her a moment to calm down, but once she did, she reached and made Jesus hold his hand palm up over the bag they were now both holding.
"Not the sign for okay," she traced the words letter by letter on his palm. "You said we will be assholes."
"Oh," Jesus said, and Connie watched his face turn a little red under his beard before they both started laughing again, doing their best to keep it quiet.
“Do you need a hug? You look like you need a hug.”
His first instinct is to answer no, that he’s fine, that he doesn’t need a hug, but then he thinks about it. He’s been so alone since Henry’s death, his marriage was in shambles, and he wasn’t able to grieve either properly because on top of both he was struggling with a cancer diagnosis. So finally after a moment he nods.
“Yes.” He admits quietly. “I could use a hug.”

The incident itself hadn't surprised her. What had surprised her was how hot and cold she could feel at the same time. Her attacker had been taken out, but, Tara lay crumpled on the ground-- her fingers curled loosely around Paul's hand. Would she survive this? She wasn't too sure, but, she was tired. Oh, she was so tired.
But, she can feel her body beginning to suffer and she knew she was dying-- if something wasn't done soon, it wouldn't be good. The nerves around her wound ignited until it felt dull and numb. A weak puff of air pressed past paled lips as the vein in her forehead began to pulse slower and slower.
She heard his words, could even comprehend them, but she couldn't find the strength to lift her head to look at him, her friend. A man she respected-- and she lowered her body even closer to the ground.
"Thought... I wasn't s'posed to meet Jesus--- until a-after I died." A final joke to fill this shit hole. And there's a faint smile on weak lips, but there was fear in those chocolate eyes of hers.
And she wasn't sure how Jesus had found her, but, she was grateful she wasn't alone. She never wanted to be alone.
