PAST.
tw: death
Life could be simple. People always rushed up places, wanted to be the first and best at everything and often forgot how sometimes one could just sit and enjoy what was best about life: its simplicity and its time. That was a lesson dwelled for generations among the McDowell’s and made its way to Noah since he was a young boy. They weren’t a big wealthy family and they had many issues like all the other families did. But they knew how to live and enjoy a simple life.
His dad was a farmworker for many years whilst his mother took care of the five kids at home. Noah and his twin sister were right there in the middle, two brothers up and one down. Since she had been born after him, he really had that middle spot and owned greatly. He always appreciated the place of low demand and low coddling. It was easy just being himself. But he wasn’t so invisible outside of his household. He always was a sweet-looking boy who great to be an equally attractive teenager and later on, quite the charming man.
He never really cared for looks, he had that simplicity in the lifestyle that allowed him to never bother for joining the popular groups in school. He didn’t do sports even if with his physic would easily allow him to join any team. He preferred an activity that the school didn’t provide—horse riding. With the farm origins and following his dad to work, he always was around those incredible animals. Time and practice also allowed him to learn enough that by sophomore year he was learning to train and care for them. While other kids were always at diners and drive-ins, he trained. That was until Lily came along. They dated for the longest time after high school before Noah actually asked her to marry him. They were just the happiest and most lovely couple and it was no surprise when little Autumn was born two years into their marriage. Noah was the goofiest and most carrying dad of all. But life wasn’t always as sweet.
It was July 4th when the accident happened. He and Lily had left a friend’s barbecue and were on their way to pick up Autumn at their grandparents. She insisted that she had to drive once they got there because Noah had had one too many drinks and it wouldn’t be safe. They were having an argument over that and he got distracted. You see, he was used to drinking and taking the wheel, but nothing had ever happened before so he thought all would be good. But it happen that day. He lost his quick reflex and when he noticed the deer on the road it was too late. Noah tried to take the car off the way as the impact would have killed them both, but he hit a tree instead and that crash killed only Lily. In way, it was like both of them died that day three years ago.
PRESENT.
Took a lot of working on himself and lectures from his mother for Noah to start putting back the pieces of that tragedy. He never took another sip of alcohol ever again. He dedicated to working and raising his daughter. When the Brookes offered him to stay at the back house of the Babbling Brookes property as part of his payment for training and taking care of the horses, he saw it as a new opportunity to raise Autumn in a place that didn’t haunt him both with the mistakes of the past.
There wasn’t any luxury and Noah always paid the amount that was due for light, water and gas on their end. But it was the type of simple life that he grew up with and that he knew all about. He wanted Autumn to experience that and learn the values that he too had learn. If Lily wasn’t there to help him teach their little girl, he sure was going to make her proud.
FUTURE PLOTS/PLANS.
He knows with the work he has now, he’ll never be able to afford college one day for Autumn, so he has been considering taking extra jobs to open a savings account for his ten-year-old daughter. He has taken notice she is very clever and bright and he wants to give her the best chance she can have.
Noah never really dates due to a rule he made for himself, for his daughter’s sake. But he has an array of girls he does see. He never really tells people about being a widower but some people in town do know about it. After Lily he feels like he can date but he isn’t so sure he’d ever marry again.
OTHER/INSPIRATION.
Noah really loves country music and secretly is an amazing singer and guitar player. He only does it to his daughter now.
They named their baby Autumn because it’s Noah’s favorite season.
He is terrified of cats but because his daughter loves them so badly he agreed on rescuing one last year.
Every morning he wakes up and trains the horses and when he’s finished he brings Autumn to learn how to ride.
Noah really missed drinking beer but since the accident he made a vow never to drink alcohol again, so he has no alcohol beer more often than he cares to agree.
His favorite meal is meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy. His favorite dessert is apple crumble—not pie, crumble. Simply because it’s something he can manage to make.
Thanksgiving is his favorite Holiday. He only celebrates 4th of July out of patriotism.
He’s a bit rough around the edges and some might say even a brute at times, but he has a big heart.
Secretly loves watching kids movies with Autumn.
