SHARE: Today, hundreds of students walked out in solidarity with Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs who are saying #NoCGL on their territory. Our friends at @350canada, @indigenoussolidarityottawa and @climatejusticeottawa

are delivering 30,000 signatures calling on Export Development Canada (EDC) to reject a loan to the Coastal GasLink pipeline right now! Can you join us in saying #NoCGL by calling MP Mary Ng the minister responsible for EDC?

Export Development Canada (EDC) is a little-known federal crown corporation with a track record of using public finance to back projects that violate Indigenous rights and push past our carbon budgets. EDC has listed the 670-kilometer Coastal GasLink Pipeline as a ‘project under consideration’ for financing. They are refusing to disclose how much and what type of financing they are considering, but it could be in the billions.

Send EDC a message and call Mary Ng, the Minister of International Trade and tell that hereditary chiefs say #NoCGL! If you’re feeling up to it, you can give EDC themselves a ring and tweet at their CEO! Script and tweet templates in our bio!

“Hello my name is ___ from a youth organization called Climate Justice Toronto. As a young person I’m calling on you as Minister responsible for Export Development Canada to reject EDC’s proposal to finance the Coastal Gaslink pipeline.

This project is opposed by Wet’suwet’en [Wet-SO-e’ten] Hereditary Chiefs and is in direct violation of their Indigenous rights and title over their homelands. Financing this project would be a gross violation of human rights.

Earlier this month, militarized police officers violently arrested peaceful land defenders and matriarchs who were protecting their lands from this disastrous project. This violent assault has triggered national solidarity demonstrations across the country.

It is absolutely unacceptable for public money to go towards the Coastal Gaslink pipeline. We cannot hand millions of public dollars to this corporation. We need solutions on the table that respect Indigenous rights and this pipeline is not it.

Mary Ng put Indigenous rights first and reject this loan. Reject Coastal Gas for the future of the next seven generations.
