born just a month shy of her mother's twentieth birthday, noelle had heard more than once that she stole her mother's youth, but it often seemed to noelle that her mother had made up for that by spending more than the past decade partying. as soon as noelle turned into a teenager, her mom wanted to get piercings with her, wanted to drink with her and party with her, but instead of becoming her pal, noelle ended up feeling like the party. she was the one who worked and she didn't get to go out much, and her mom even laughed about how she got laid more than noelle did. when noelle found out that her mom had a new partner, noelle foolishly hoped they would help settle her mother, but when they met up at the diner noelle worked in so that she could finally meet her mom's new mystery lover, noelle was horrified. not only had they met, but they'd slept together and the moment that her mom disappeared, noelle leaned across the shitty formica table, hissing, "you can't tell her!"
