400 Blows' Reflection
I have no idea about French films, this is my first French movie I've ever seen. According to the Internet, this movie is older than me! I have to say that for me, this movie is a little bit boring because I don't understand French, so it's pretty hard for me to get the theme of this movie. However, I do get something from it, fortunately; this film does implicate some points that reflect the society until these present days. Family problems bring pressure to the kid; this movie shows that one of major reasons why Antoine is such a troublemaker is because he is lacked of care and love by his parents. I also think that Antoine's actions represent that he is seeking for freedom from the society and situation he is currently living in because I can see that he is being controlled by his atmosphere both in school and family. It is obvious that the way he acts is more complex than his same-aged friends; I assume that it is because of again, how his family treats him shapes him to be looked older than his years. The ending sequence, when he runs away from the juvenile delinquent center to the beach; this scene, for me, represent freedom-seeking, but then there is no such thing is freedom. Even if you run away, you are still trapped in the same world. It doesn't matter how far you can run to the freedom, but you will never reach it. “You can check out anytime you’d like, but I can never leave!”
