First Meeting: Carolina and York
She had only entered the force a few months before, but she was already headed toward being the best. Of course she was, Carolina had to be the best, and nothing could distract her from that goal. But that day, a day that had started so normally with her sitting at her desk and finishing off some paperwork, he walked in.
Carolina glanced at him wearily. She did not normally trust new guys. They teased and flirted with her and treated her as if she couldn't knock out their teeth with one hit. But this man he seemed different. When caught her eye while asking an assistant about a job, he wasn't condescending or leering. He didn't question what a 'doll like her was doing in such a place', he just smiled.
And maybe she could have turned him away. Maybe she could have told him that she didn't need a new partner, that all positions were filled at the moment, but she couldn't. It was his smile, Carolina decided. He made her.... curious.
Yes, he was rather, well, handsome; looking very dapper in his slightly wrinkled suit. But she couldn't stop looking at his eye, wondering how someone who had been so injured could be so easy going. How some one who had been hurt could still smile like that.
It was ridiculous, she had only just met him, only just seen him not even forty three seconds ago, but something made her walk up, hold out her hand and ask, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
