Broke: Gene passes to the other side and Naru&Mai work out the kinks in their friendship fully and then get together later on. Masako and Naru become like brother and sister, both lamenting over how much they love how stupid Mai can be.
Woke: Gene continues to haunt both Naru and Mai, enjoying the hell out of flirting with Mai in her dreams just to get her blushing. He also makes sure to give her as much dirt on Naru as he can. Naru is an asexual and an aromantic, altogether uninterested in any kind of relationship besides familial or friendship. He and Mai become like brother and sister. Now that Masako feels like that he doesn't hate her for knowing his secret, they too become closer. Masako eventually gets Yasahara to be her manager and as they become closer they get together. Mai never quite gets over her feelings for Gene, especially since he’s still bothering her, so she and Naru move in together (along with Lin) and all three live as ghost hunting spinsters. They have a three legged cat named Abyss.
