Yesterday I got to attend my first "No Mo' Chemo" party. It was awesome.
Every patient at St. Jude gets one when they complete their last round of chemo. The party today was for a patient I have worked with for most of my time at St. Jude. I talked about him in patient profile #2 and in the patient profile update. After quite the long road of surgery, radiation, and chemo, today was his last day being an inpatient at St. Jude and, if everything goes according to plan, the last day he will ever have to get chemotherapy.
The party consisted of a group of about 15 of us bursting into his room unannounced with balloons and a sign, singing a little jingle about how much we love him but are excited to see him go, and throwing a bunch of confetti all over the place. In all it only lasted about 3 minutes, but it was the highlight of my day.
