Day 7
I’ve officially made it (well, it’s 7pm but I’m quite confident) seven days without an alcoholic beverage. How do I feel? Pretty damn fantastic. That’s also seven days cigarette free. I’ve eaten better. I’ve been exercising regularly (a little sore on the gooch, need to upgrade my bike seat I think - which i’ll do - with the money I save from not drinking!)
It’s not been a thoroughly easy and enjoyable process, i’ve been tired, irritated, anxious but right now I’m feeling great and looking forward to the next 358 days!
My first real challenge is coming up on 21st January (well perhaps the 19th, my birthday will be a challenge) it’s a wedding of two awesome people and no doubt the liquor will be flowing. Feel confident I’ll be able to bat of the peer pressure now...we’ll see when it comes to the day!
Onwards!
Our liver vacation: Is a dry January really worth it?
Science, rather than a DailyMail article paid for by ABinBev, says giving up the sauce is good for you. Six days in and I can already attest to this fact.
The Good Hurt.
There have been times where I have woken up hungover and hurt. Random bruises from the previous night’s party.
Today, for the first the time in ages, I felt the good hurt. I went on a big 60km bike ride and hurt myself. Climbing up hills. The gradient hit 23% for one particular segment. It hurt, I thought I was going to die. Sort of. Then it felt good. And towards the end of the route I was dancing on the pedals, climbing a gradient that I thought I would have struggled with.
Now I hurt, my body is tired and needs to recover. However, it’s the good hurt. I feel the endorphins and left over adrenaline. Not something I have felt in a long time. So, if you had asked the question ‘Why are you doing this?’ the above is one answer. It’s not something I would have done, or found the motivation to do if I had been drinking.
Drink is a path to depression disguised as a good time.

No hangovers?
I keep seeing posts from friends and friends of friends about not drinking and you know what? I think I'm tempted to jump on that bandwagon. Sure drinking can be fun and a great time but waking up with that dry mouth and gross hollow feeling in your chest? I can do without it. Its not like I have a problem with drinking or anything like that but maybe it'd be a nice change of pace. I'm gonna try it. I'll be the DD from now on I guess. ☺
