Non-destructive editing: does it cause more problems than it solves? Your edits are saved as processing instructions which can be updated, changed or removed at any time. It sounds like a no-brainer – but is it that simple?

I’m pretty pleased with this image, adjusted in Capture One with a third-party LUT profile and three adjustment layers. But it doesn’t actually exist as an image, only as the original image and a set of processing metadata stored elsewhere in a database.
