top five non-human entities!!
Specifically or generally? Real or fictional? I’ll do a mix!
1. The Blue Mountain Honey Mushroom - Near where I live there is a giant mycelial network that is huge! It covers miles of forest. I love mushrooms and this one is a contender for largest organism ever. Pando (a beech(?) root network) is also a contender, and I also love him, but mushrooms are cooler and this one is literally where I live.
2. Rubbery men - Humanoid cephalopods from the Fallen London universe. They are sweet and sad and gentle. I want to protect them all.
3. Some friends and I made up a society of elves and I really like them. They are strange and inhuman, and their creation story is really really good (I didn’t write it, so that’s not me bragging).
4. Cephalopods - This is kind of a repeat, but I love cephalopods. They’re so strange and intelligent, and biologically weird. Also they can be quite cute, like nautili, they’re so dumb.
5. Hera (wolf 359) - She is probably the most interesting and well written AI character I’ve encountered. She deals with some really interesting questions of embodiment, personhood, and agency and also is just great.
Bonus joke answer, pretty much all of my friends; y’all are wonderful, but I do doubt whether you’re all completely human.
Also, there are a whole bunch that I didn’t talk about or missed, so this is nowhere near comprehensive.
