26 & 27 may 2026: today (wednesday) i drove 5½ hours to and from my friend's hometown for her funeral. i gave my painting of her to her partner before i left—i'm broken-hearted and beyond angry that her partner wasn't allowed to come to the funeral, and i guarantee they announced the date & time of the funeral so late so that a bunch of her neighbors couldn't come. joke's on them, though, because we were the most interesting table at the luncheon. (ugh. i miss my friend.)

Superman/Supergirl

Ok, I want to start off by saying I love the new Superman movie, and the DC universe that James Gunn is building. David Corenswet was an amazing superman and really embodied Kal El's true personality from the comics. I respect him as Superman. The incorporation of Metamorpho was my favorite, his character is very underutilized and the way they introduced him into the new DC universe was perfect. As well as the exploration of live action meta humans. James Gunn is starting this universe off right, properly representing the true identities of the heroes, already using underutilized characters and exploring previously neglected (with the exception of the CW Arrowverse Flash show) groups of people like meta humans. However... I do NOT like when they greatly alter the origins of a character, especially one that is such a pillar to the DC universe. Hawkgirl IS NOT a meta human! Shayera Hol is a Thanagarian from the planet Thanagar. She is a warrior who comes to Earth for various reasons (depending on which era of comics you are talking about, in most storylines she becomes immortal (for various reasons), often considered "destined for reincarnation") but she is an alien first and foremost in almost every storyline. She is not a meta human though, and I don't know how I feel about her being a girl who's meta human ability is hawk like characteristics, but I do trust James Gunn, so we'll see. I will say, I am very excited for the Supergirl movie, as well as a more in depth view of the connection between Krypto and the El family. All in all, I believe these are ways to start off the new DC universe.
