Remembering Ms. Nora Aunor Through My Lolas’ Eyes
Here are just a few photos from the many pieces in my Lola’s treasured Nora Aunor memorabilia.
For over five decades, my grandmother, Lola Ester, kept something more than just paper and ink; she preserved a piece of Philippine cultural history. Tucked in her collection, now weathered and fragile, is an album titled: "Album of the Phenomenal Nora Aunor Villamayor Maria Leonora Teresa, Tirso Cruz III". Every stroke of her pen, every carefully arranged photo or note, is a testimony to a lifetime of admiration.
My Lola Ester was a Noranian—through and through. She wasn't alone. My other grandma, MamaLola Baby, shared that same deep admiration. They were part of a generation that witnessed the rise of a young, talented girl with a golden voice who would go on to become the Superstar of Philippine cinema.
The album itself was made from magazine cutouts of Nora Aunor—each image precisely trimmed and thoughtfully arranged, like a personal scrapbook. It was more than a collection; it was art. Lola Ester designed it all by hand, driven by passion, capturing the many faces and moments of Ms. Nora's career.
This tribute is more than nostalgia. It is a celebration of how one woman, Ms. Nora Aunor, touched the hearts of millions, including two remarkable women in my life. Their devotion wasn't fleeting fandom; it was genuine respect and admiration for someone who represented hope, resilience, and artistry.
For 56 years, Lola Ester held onto this memorabilia. She organized it with care, as if protecting a sacred family heirloom. The album itself speaks of the era—its worn cover, delicate handwriting, and the sincerity that leaps off the page.
In today's digital world, where memories are fleeting and content scrolls past in seconds, this album remains still—silent yet full of emotion. It reminds us that being a fan used to mean something lasting, something crafted with hands and heart.
I had the chance to witness something truly unforgettable—when we visited Ms. Nora Aunor, laying in peace. I accompanied my two Lolas, and watching them reminisce, laugh, and share their fangirl stories with fellow Noranians was heartwarming. It was like time stood still. They talked about concerts, film showings, love teams, and letters. It was admiration in its purest form.
As I hold this piece of history, I can almost hear the echoes of their voices—Lola Ester and MamaLa—cheering for Nora during her concerts, watching her films, and defending her from critics with unmatched loyalty.
So this is my tribute—to Ms. Nora Aunor, and to my Lola Ester and MamaLa.
Thank you for teaching me that true admiration is not just about applause—it’s about memory, legacy, and love that endures. 🤍✨
