👑 CROWN - what does your oc want to be remembered as? why?
If asked, the kneejerk answer is 'myself!'
Having always been mistaken for Zero and far overshadowed by him from the very beginning, life has been a bit unfair to him. And sure, he hasn't always been the great person he makes himself out to be. Hayato was a serial cheater, served in a disreputable army that was as brutal as it was starved, and he's turned a blind eye to things that went on within that little cluster of others like himself.
Still, he wasn't entirely irredeemable. When Zero chased glory, Hayato was self-sacrificing if it meant getting the human pilots back to base. To him, going down fighting for someone else to live is the most honorable way to go. They had families, so if he woke up from the grips of death three days later to see them again, it was worth it. They could live to fight another day-- and write another letter, sometimes one that he'd entrust to Takahiro to bring home personally to avoid it being censored heavily.
People mistaking him for Zero is insulting, and he takes a lot of offense at being called Army Zero by western historians who know better. As far as he's concerned, they're only alike in that their job is to fight, and after that there's nothing in common.
❇️ SPARKLE - what is their most prized possession? what do they value?
During the war, it was a photograph. It was commonplace for pilots to put photos on their instrument panels, stuck between a crevice, to have their significant others with him. As much as Hayato was self-destructive and had a knack for hurting the person he felt most strongly for, this thing went everywhere with him. If he was dying, it was placed in a pocket and he had to hope it survived whatever came after.
It didn't survive the war, but that's fine. He doesn't need it anymore, because he's married to Nanako. :)
Now, the most prized possession of his is the 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi that he owns and maintains on his own. One might not know that since he's often seen racing with it, but unless the thing gets crushed like a beer can, he can probably restore it back to perfect condition. A lot of cars have come and gone because he fixes and sells them just for fun but none of them have ever been as sentimental as this one.
☁️ CLOUD - a soft headcanon
As a child, Hayato always told Nanako he would marry her someday. He hates being reminded of this by Koutarou and Tsubasa because he thinks it's totally uncool and very cringe, but from time to time he finds it really amusing that it ended up happening, and will bring it up on his own on their anniversary.
