💌 The grass was light and sprinkled with the morning dew, a soft breeze ruffled the leaves as the birds took to a soft morning melody. Brushing herself down before the babbling brook before her Alex looked at her reflection and almost didn’t recognize herself. Mostly on the account, she didn’t don her normal delivery clothes nor her lab attire.
She still hadn’t gotten used to the new ‘uniform’ given to her but since it was enchanted to protect her she didn’t fight her teacher upon getting it. Luckily the dress was simple enough to move in but it didn’t stop her from giving the cotton skirt a shakedown in mild frustration. Straightening the ascot was the most familiar thing about the outfit.
“I’d rather have my other clothes back....but when in another world, embrace.” She spoke trying to smile after her reflection mimicked her distress. Deep down she knew that such a thing could not be now however and tried to shake the sadness upon her face,” Now...where am I?”
Blue eyes took to looking around the forest in which she found herself their soft green hues calming her as the answers eluded her. Alex had seen many trees, forests and dense patches of plant life but she drew a blank being there were no houses about.
Patting herself down she found pockets sewn into the side flaps and even that her pouch had made the shift. Ok, she could live with the change aside from one fact hitting her hard as a brick.
“Wait....that’s right I don’t have it.....oh bother. That’s ok, we’ll just find a trail and be on our way ....North should be .....” Alex at once licked her finger and put it in the air testing the wind,” That way~” 💌
The Dusks milling about the pods were all recording data, while the scientist himself observed the vitals and other specific data of the various replica’s that had been in the wings, each one designed with a specific individual in mind.
“ Status Report.” the main computer began its report, data cascading across the screen that was mean of the eyes of the male that worked on this special project. The cold answers echoing quietly in the white rooms.
“ Replica three failed to fuse and was terminated. Replica’s five, nine and twelve failed to show vital improvement and were terminated.” He sighed and gave a frustrated noise, the cold neon of the ‘terminated’ flashed across the screen. The failures, with these it brought the total up to 15, so much wasted research potential but there was a method to the madness now wasn’t there.
He glanced to the last one, sixteen.
That one the only one that had yet to fail, suspended in glowing blue liquid, highly oxygenated. The blond shifted his attention “ Status report Replica 16.”
The humming as the computer extracts the data, “ Vitals are stable, brain activity is stable. ”
Perhaps this is the one then, he wonders if he should tell his higher up, especially the ones who had specifically requested this one. They weren’t out of the woods yet this one was still in the early process and hadn’t gotten to the final stages of replication.
He summoned a Dusk. “ Go get him. Tell him I think he should come see this.”
But for the replica there is nothing but the void, and all he can do is dream, and each dream is the same, a man, the glint of seafoam or was it gold, and the smile from someone on the other side. He thinks he wakes up floating, it is the same as another dream, and he doesn’t know whose dream it is anymore.
Every dream is the same, always a man that comes, and comes, comes, always to him, to see him, for him. The dreams collapse on themselves, fold into each other like little dolls, nesting dolls, one inside another, inside another and another.
This can’t be his dream, can’t be his dream, he doesn’t remember sunlight, doesn’t know the man who watches him through glass through a haze of blue. Sometimes he thinks he is awake, sometimes, it hurts too much, and it feels too real; sometimes; it is too slow and he wants to scream for hours and hours and hours but he cannot, there is something that chokes him, makes it impossible to do anything with his mouth he doesn’t have the capacity to make noise. There is a place at the very bottom of his dreams, and he comes here after he thinks he has seen those faces without names a thousand times over. He is alone here, and he can’t hear anyone, can’t see anyone, smell or taste or feel anything. He lays here and he waits for what seems an eternity in the cold darkness.
And then he can feel, its painful, twisting higher and tighter in his body, and he can feel every beat and pulse that sears through his veins like fire. The blood roars in his ears, and he can hear his own breathing. When he turns his head to the side, he sees himself, but he doesn’t understand how he can see himself, because he is sure his eyes are closed, but he sees himself, staring back and back and back, and it’s like mirrors reflecting on mirrors, and he doesn’t know which one of him is real. Which is a dream. There is a terrible pain and it never ends, and he thinks he will never wake up.
And then he is screaming out loud or maybe in his head, screaming for what he does not know, and he wants to touch himself, wants to feel his own skin, to tear his body apart, and rip the pain out of his blood and his muscles and his bones.
But then, then its gone, the sensation passes and he is once again, cold and the dreams are passing, but he doesn’t know if they are his dreams, or if they are dreams at all, just the image of that man, watching, watching, waiting, and he wonders, if they are waiting for him.
ℨ: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
X: Accepting
There’s a few places, but I think top of my list would be Scotland, where my roots are. My dad once went and visited a few of the landmarks - some even share our surname because they bred like fucking bunnies - and tried the whole “oh, no, we’re family, so we shouldn’t have to pay” schtick. Ah hah. Ah hah hah.
The two biggest-sized “clans” in Scotland are the Sutherland’s and the Stewart’s and I’m directly descended from both - father and mother, respectfully. I still can’t hold my whiskey, though. I got ripped off in the gene pool!
I’ve always wanted to try a role reversal AU, especially for Saïx. Like if he and Axel were opposites right down to the fact that Axel was the Norted one, and Saïx was best friends with Roxas and Xion.
Is this. . . some sort of joke? A manipulation of the void, to see the reflection of what he knew as the amalgamation of his Somebodies? Or. . . there is the REALITY that it is the reflection. He stands here, so why not the Somebody as well.
“What mockery the--” a shot of pain, causing a growl to rise from the ex-Nobody, “--the worlds find to present the whole to a former SHELL. . .”
A mischievous, but joyous smile crossed his lips as he shifted his head to look up at the silver haired man. It was a kind and gentle touch, there was nothing negative or bad about it. Vanitas then launched forward and buried his face against the man’s chest.
