Hello! First, I love your content. I live for it! And second, I read Fael’s character page and I was curious, how does Fael feel about his vallaslin after trespasser? I’m assuming he figured out through context what it meant? Does he wish he could remove it or was it more of a coming of age thing for him?
Hi, thank you so much! So, I would say that it’s the second for him? After Trespasser he has troubles still having faith in the Creators, and goes through quite of a faith crisis. The vallaslin though is more than just a sign of devotion for him though. It’s a symbol of his culture and identity as a Dalish elf, which is something that goes far beyond faith and misinformations about their gods. It actually becomes much more important to him after the revelations Solas and Corypheus made, as it represents the elven culture that lives on here and now.
Despite that, he doesn’t really want Yara to have a vallaslin. For him it had a meaning, but for her, now that they know the truth, would it mean she’d be accepting a slave marking? Would he be reinforcing old slavery practices that have been carried on to the present day by allowing her to have one? Or would he take away part of her culture by not allowing it? It’s a complicated issue, and eventually Fael lets Yara decide for herself when she’s old enough (she doesn’t get one. Her devotion is to her current family, not to her prior clan and their ways)So no, he doesn’t want to remove it from his face. It’s a part of who he is.
