Despite the fact that several of these bugs are older than him.

Mothivia is suddenly Vi's begrudging extra older sister.
Zasp is suddenly Leif's younger brother.
Maki, Kina, and Yin have no say in the matter.
Snakemouth is a family name.
Nobody knows what got Kabbu started, not even Kabbu.
And nobody wants to make Kabbu sad, so they all just go with it.
Eventually all of the explorers are Kabbu's kids.
Vi no longer complains about Leif and cute things. She has a grown man with mama bear instincts to try and curb.
Kabbu is a "Surprise you're adopted! Sign here! (By who? Me of course.)" kind of gremlin.
The explorers have to stop him from adopting everyyone who looks vaguely sad.
(Look I like chaos Vi, but Kabbu causing chaos is just, so amazing. Especially if Vi is trying to not gremlin because she has to stop someone else from doing gremlin stuff. Leif is just happy to not be as closely watched around cute things.)
Eventually the whole big group just, starts calling each other family terms.
The only other dad is Hawk (I just like seeing Hawk do dad things okay).
Outside observers just going ??????.
