I made this map in 2020 for a Tales from the Loop game that didn't end up happening. The whole thing from scratch took a couple hours so it wasn't the biggest loss, but I'm disappointed I never got to use it.

I’ve had some requests for what brands/types of paint I used for the Dropfleet Scourge beetle-effect, so here ya go. Various blends of these 4 paints are the entirety of what was used for the carapace. It’s all done with brushes, no airbrush (my compressor is, uh. Sick. ._.)

Hi everyone! I’m PD.

I’m 26 years old, and have always had a love for miniatures and maps. D&D was my gateway, now I also dabble in wargaming. About a year ago I started learning how to print and paint minis for myself and my friends. This is a space for me to post my work and interact with other hobbyists.

I’m getting back into miniature painting, but slowly. I don’t game much these days, as I’ve said in the past, so painting armies/boardgames has only really the appeal of painting, and I’m a project-driven person. So I’ve been thinking how to kickstart my interest in minis again, and struck upon the idea of translating MtG art/creatures that grab my attention into miniature form. It’d give me a big conversion challenge, and also a clear endgoal & inspiration. And I do love translating things from concept into a tangible form. Currently (because I’m a sucker for Shadows Over Innistrad/New Phyrexia), my frontrunners are: Unimpeded Trespasser

Terrain: A Change in Priorities.

So, when I started this blog, I was all aflame with ideas for huge boards that divided down into ‘managable’ sections. But managable turned out to be.. Not as managable as I expected. In short, the SDE board (and having 3-5 others) would not be practical for taking anywhere else, and almost all my boardgaming takes place out of home. I’m disabled and don’t have a car, and to boot I don’t have a garage or workshop (I do all my painting/crafting in the living room).

So terrain wise, I’m focusing on smaller bits for now, and marking down the SDE board as a cool idea that turned into a really cool model, but not one I’m going to go further on. In terms of what I have in mind, my current focus is terrain for Infinity. I recently bought this MDF set, which has turned out wonderfully and I am planning on modding heavily/accessorizing into a marketplace for Infinity that’ll fit inside a medium-suitcase worth of space along with my minis. I got a new Hirst Arts mold to help with the accessorizing, I’ll let you know what I think of it once I’ve tried it out~

I looked at making fold-down buildings like the official Corvus Belli stuff, but decided that it ultimately wouldn’t have longevity (wear at the joints especially, though rubberized paint would be an option there) and would be too restrictive on detail and windows and the like. So small, lightweight wooden buildings with foam, wood, plaster & card accessories that are not attached/vulnerable to snapping off seem like a good compromise.

Pieces I’m currently working on:

* Modding the buildings themselves to have open doorways, then detailing them.

* Making planters/trees.

* Painting my Nomads warband.

* Last assembly bits on my Japanese Sectorial Army warband.

* Sealing the last of the SDE base game minis.

* Painting Dungeon Saga.

I’m definitely not done with crafting dungeons. But next time, I’m going to be more careful about making ones that divide down smaller, and don’t weigh as much.
