disclaimer: This is relatively short. I could write more, but I am pretty sure you have heard it all and if not.. I have some sources for you at the end that you NEED to see. If anything offends you, good. I’m not here to make friends- but to open your eyes.
One thing that has been plaguing me is this new hashtag women's movement. It's not the fact that it's a hashtag, and it's not the fact that it's a women's movement. It's the response. Women have (for many years) dealt with a double standard. Now that we are finally having something that is reaching out to millions of men to awaken their unknowingly chauvinistic and sexist ways(I’m not talking about opening doors for women), there are other men that are trying to stop it.
These are the guys who scream “NOT ALL MEN!” or inclining our Hashtag movement to dirt because it’s a hashtag (which in america this is how we get word to go around so it’s a perfect way to start a movement for AMERICA, not for 3rd world countries that don’t have the ability to see them)., and even worse… claiming an equality for all.
I don’t want an equality for all, because men are already equal. I want an equality for my own gender to finally be at the same level as the opposites. for those who think, “I already treat women as equals.” Well, women who have the same level job as you, and are just as qualified get passed up on promotions and pay raises. Plus we get paid less then men.
what about this doozy: how we have to scream fire instead of rape?
or how politics is intruding on our choices about our bodies( you won’t hear about that for a man).
I’ve heard men complain and say “it’s just a couple of cents”- but you know what? If the shoe was on the other foot, there would be a male movement too. You would complain about not getting paid the same, or anything else.
Women have to deal with “Nice guys” who really are only befriending them so they can get laid- when we spurn them because.. well, we aren’t interested and we thought the guy was a nice person but “we’re the bitches” even though he’s acting like an asshole and whining like a bitch.
Are there women who are manipulative like these “nice guys” sure- but there are assholes in every group- so by pointing this out with a “well you do it too”, you are just deflecting the problem.
Thus becoming the problem.
This movement is not to attack you. This movement is to awaken you. It may be #NotAllMen, but #YesAllwomen deal with this. I hope maybe you’ll let go of your ego and stop thinking it’s demonizing you in specific. It’s frustrating when or movement is pushed aside because of it being us explaining what we have gone through. Now if we can’t be equal(which as human beings we deserve), I’ll shoot for better than you(which is what I will do if you deny all women that right).
here are some links(some have repeat of tweets) for you to take a gander, of what you are so afraid of (because #Yesallwomen are afraid of this):
