♥ Andromeda

Relationship Status: Former Friends, Former Schoolmates

Feelings toward them: Officially, he despises her.  That is what is required of him and the company he keeps.  Unofficially, she confuses him.  She had all the advantages he has so long desired, and turned her back on them for some muggle-born who doesn’t seem all that remarkable from Severus’s point of view.  

Fantasies about them: Severus always wishes they had been better friends.  She was protective of him when they were in school, and there is a small part of him that wants to believe that there is something about giving things up for the people you love.  The care she has always displayed for the people she loves is unlike anything Severus had seen.  

Traits they like: Her determination when she makes up her mind about something.  Her individuality and refusal to acquiesce to anyone else’s expectations.  

Traits they dislike: Her unfortunate affection for the muggle-born.  Her disregard for family loyalty.  

Favorite thing to do to bug them: Ignore her when she tries to speak to him.  But honestly it’s better than he could treat her, compared to some of his allies.  It’s a kindness, really.  

Favorite thing to do to cheer them up: Andromeda is dead to his circle.  He wouldn’t do anything to help her. In the future, he can’t help but have a small soft spot for Tonks, even though she doesn’t show much promise when it comes to potions or hand-eye coordination.

Nightmare they had involving them: Severus was in school, a first year.  He was walking in a hallway when he realized it was past curfew.  He began sneaking along the corridors, trying not to get caught.  He turns a corner and all the prefects are there, including Andromeda.  They are taking hundreds of house points away, yelling at his disrespect and disregard for the rules.  His whole house turns their backs on him.  Again, Severus is completely alone.  

Dream they had involving them: Severus sees Andromeda.  She is holding her child.  She looks radiant.  Being a mother suits her.  Severus’s mother is standing beside him, mirroring Andromeda and her child.  “I wanted the best for you.”  She replies, as the two of them look on to see Andromeda playing hide-and-go-seek with her girl.  “I know.”  Severus speaks quietly and turns away from the former Black, leaving the loving mother and child to their own.  

Desire from them right at this moment: To repent for choosing the muggle-born.  To come back to the fold and back into Narcissa’s life, in particular.  As much as she attempts to brush it away, Sev knows there’s an unsettled tension between the two of them.

Embracing the Moment -- Flashback // Andromeda & Severus

June 1974

Muggle Cafe

Already this summer had been more exhausting than the rest of them combined.  According to his father, Severus was stubborn, selfish, and thought only of himself.  Meanwhile the same man spent his evenings locked in his office drinking himself into oblivion, ignorant of anything that went on in his house.  If it weren’t for the fact that Lily and her family lived so close, Severus would have been driven mad a long time ago.  

Today, however, he hadn’t been able to put up with his mother’s nagging complaints about the books he had brought home, borrowed from Evan to read more about dark magic over the summer.  He had claimed that his reading was purely theoretical to better protect himself, but his mother had seen right through that.  After a tense “discussion” about the books and the dangers of dark magic, Severus had stormed out of the house to clear his head before he had to deal with his father home from work.  

He had wandered through the burrows at Spinner’s End, he happened upon a cafe his mother used to take him to when he was young, when they needed to get out of the house.  A warmth filled him, a memory of a time when things seemed bleak but somehow less vast.  When the bleakness of the world seemed confined only to his own house, not infecting the entire world.  Seeking to reclaim a bit of the peace, he entered the little cafe for a bite to eat and a few moments of peace and quiet.  

The cafe was much as he remembered, with a few differences in decoration.  The paint had changed from a pale pink to a pastel green, presumably to spice up the decor to make it relevant and trendy.  They still served the same teas, sweets, and sandwiches, and Severus hoped the food was as good as he remembered.  

With a singular goal in mind, Severus walked to the counter and ordered a sandwich and a fizzy drink.  He had thought to grab a few pounds, muggle money he hadn’t quite grown accustomed to carrying around with him now that he had become fully involved in the magical world.  His sandwich came out rather quickly, wrapped in brown paper that crinkled with a satisfying crunch.  He turned to find a table and almost stopped in his tracks.  

Andromeda Black was there, bouncing a child on her knee.  Severus hadn’t seen her since their days at school together.  She had been head girl, the highest position of authority a student could possess.  Naturally, Severus had been drawn to her from the beginning.  His thirst for power had been evident even as a first year.  Andromeda had been protective of him from the beginning, often running Sirius and his friends off when they gave him too much trouble.  Though she was pureblood, she accepted him in a way many of her counterparts didn’t.  With Andromeda, though she was far older than him, he didn’t have to prove himself to her as the son of a pureblood woman who ran away to the muggle world.  

The kid couldn’t have been more than a year old, holding herself up on her own but not quite making intelligible words.  Andromeda sat there, a small smile on her face as she gazed lovingly down at her babe.  Severus knew that Andromeda had married a muggleborn wizard, some Hufflepuff someone or other.  All that mattered was that you didn’t speak her name anymore in the open common room among the rest of his fellow snakes.  She was dead to her family, a ghost that existed apart from time.  

And yet here she sat in front of him.  Severus didn’t know if he wanted to leave and pretend as if he hadn’t seen her or sit and enjoy his lunch at her table.  He glanced around, mentally cataloging to see if he recognized anyone around them.  It wouldn’t hurt, at least approaching Andromeda.  Perhaps he could counsel her to return to her family.  If anyone knew about the troubles that befell a woman who left her family to marry someone undesirable, it was Severus.  He approached awkwardly, clearing his throat as he arrived at the table.  

“Andromeda, I’m not sure if you remember me.  I’m Severus Snape, and I..” Severus trialed off, his mouth unable to form any more words.  He didn’t know if he wanted to sit or stand or just walk away again as if he had never approached.  It wasn’t often he felt at a loss for words.  “...I’m here getting lunch.”

3. Did they have a good childhood? What are fond memories they have of it? What’s a bad memory?

Lucius’ parents tried to give him the most normal childhood a chronically ill child could have. While they weren’t overly strict with what he could and couldn’t do, guidelines were needed to make sure things didn’t get any worse. One of his fondest childhood memories involves his father siding with him in an argument with his mother. Lucius wanted to play Quidditch and Katharina believed the sport was too dangerous for her son. Abraxas surprised him by saying he should be allowed to play and insisting he teach him the basics of it. His parents singing to him before he fell asleep is another memory he likes. As for a bad memory, there are a few times where Lucius acted out and got yelled at. Being told off by his mother was never any fun for him, so he usually tried his best to behave – and that always seemed to get him into more trouble than originally planned.

42. What are their goals? What would they sacrifice anything for? What is their secret ambition?

Lucius wants to be the very best and will do whatever it takes to be on top and remain there. He has the looks, the gorgeous spouse, and large house. The next thing on the list of things that lead to success is having an heir and becoming Voldemort’s right hand man. He values his family a lot more than he leads on and would be willing sacrifice himself if it meant keeping a loved one out of danger. He is currently working on learning the inner workings of the Ministry. While he does not aspire to become the Minister, he hopes to earn enough connections to become a trusted and valued member of the Ministry staff.

11. Do they have any special diet requirements? Are they a vegetarian? Vegan? Have any allergies?

James doesn’t have any sort of special diet requirements, nor does he have any allergies.  He likes meat too much to ever consider being a vegetarian or vegan.  However, he does not like spicy food very much, so he tries to avoid him.  Unfortunately for him, Lily seems to really like spicy foods, so he does his best to eat them for her.

16. Do they collect anything? What do they do with it? Where do they keep it?

He has a collection of Tornadoes memorbilia that he has sitting on a shelf in his room.  Everytime his dad would take him to a match, he would make it a point to buy one thing to put into his collection.  James doesn’t necessarily do a whole lot with it, but it’s there to remind him of all the fun he’s had with his dad. 

25. What do they find funny? Do they have a good sense of humour? Are they funny themselves? 

Any sort of joke, prank, off handed comment, James finds it all funny.  The quicker the humor, the better.  He has a great sense of humor, always looking for a reason to laugh.  His parents are natural comedians, and all of his friends have their own unique sense of humor that can leave him in stitches.  He happens to think that he’s hilarious, and some of his friends will agree that he can be funny most of the time.

🔄 (Severus and Peter)

Severus Snape and Peter Pettigrew

Both became known as traitors in their adulthood.  Both were known at one point in their lives as devoted servants to the Dark Lord.  Both of them had carefully cultivated personas they displayed to the world around them.  Their collective actions lead to the demise of the Potters.  

Before all of that the two stood on opposite sides of a war.  Each carefully cultivated a persona, made up of sarcasm and swagger that sometimes felt all too much like a child playing dress up.  

They certainly would never be friends, but you had to admit they had a lot in common.
