Can you tell us more of what you know about Phyrexia, Byode and Ixhel?
Dear Glimmering Gatherer,
I'm afraid I know only as much as you do about Phyrexia and its followers. They hailed from somewhere in the wider megaverse, and despite my best efforts, I have not been able to track their universe of origin; I can only guess that it lies out of phase with the timestream, and thus beyond the limits of my domain. Furthermore, the invasion has triggered a kind of autoimmune response in our multiverse: the infected realities are being rejected—made less of themselves, and more of elsewhere. All I can see of them, presently, is spacetime scarring over, and I must resist the urge to look beneath; for now, I cannot confirm how much—if any—of the story I related to you is actually the truth. But as I peer past the ragged edge of the wound, into the void on the other side, I find myself glimpsing movement… a dark reflection, in blackest pitch, the colors shifting and blurring in otherworldly hues. Fear not, I will continue to monitor the situation.
With Byode, too, I find myself with more questions than answers. I have heard whispers and rumors of this "universewalker" for a long time, but they were often contradictory and always vague—and having met them, if only briefly, I now understand why. Byode is sometimes called the "Inverse Sun", and it is truly a fitting name; if a normal sun is a source of light, of energy, of information, Byode is the absence of these things, drawing them into their being in a way that defies understanding. I remember very little of our interaction; it's as if my mind is piecing together what happened, and what we spoke of, from the shape of the empty space in my memories.
As such, I will relate to you the few consistent threads between the stories I have heard. It is said that Byode is a being who explores beyond the edge of eternity; capable of stepping between dimensions in an instant, with ease exceeding that of even myself and my siblings. The multiverse in which I reside comprises only the tiniest fraction of the worlds that Byode can traverse, and they carry incredible power and impossible knowledge learned from these countless realities. I have heard it told that with the slightest gesture, they can summon creatures, create artifacts and manifest enchantments from across universes beyond what we know.
It is a rare, humbling experience to meet a being with knowledge so far beyond my own—but it's also exciting, to know how much there is for even an old 'bot such as myself still to learn.
