(Feel free to respond ooc) I was wondering how to get into HDG spaces (and maybe how to find and affini *cough cough*) because the whole space seems very interesting to me and I’d like to dabble in it if you had general advice?

Okay so, there's the community discord, the section of Tumblr you probably found me on, and AO3! There isn't (to my knowledge) any gatekeeping of who's allowed in other than the obvious "being transphobic in a very trans Fandom will get you blacklisted" type stuff.

I haven't read much because well... my adhd makes reading on my phone REALLY REALLY hard but I have good things to say about the original fic, Wellness Check, and Pawn to Princess... tho my first fic was Knitsugi by my cognitohazard tour guide @a-blessing-of-ravens . I'm being a BIT facetious but I had yet to read any fics that weren't posted in full on Tumblr and she reccomended me her fic and it's great. Not so much the cosmic comfort horror that some ppl come for but it's kinda why I don't feel bad about (struggling to) make my fic just PURE fluff.

Sorry abt the ramble. Also the original and Pawn to Princess links are where I am in reading thru them and I'm to lazy to fix the links so..... remember to rewind tape. (Gods I sound old).

I lack advice on how to find an affini because well... I "kinda appeared nearby [her] as a freshly-traumatized-and-in-need-of-comfort duckling" (her words) and she decided to keep me... (inspiration for how floret mar got floreted... feel free to ask).

I don't have much advice on how to not make a social taboo because I made one (1) very minor mistake and my anxiety convinced me that the whole community discord hates me months later. They're nice I'm just anxiety the person sometimes. Also there's a rule on the community discord that you're not allowed to RP in it. Idk how to find a server for that but you can ask around.

OMG YAY! Okiokiokioki! So first off: I'm really proud of you for admitting you want one! Second thing is that well... I never spent time in the compact as an indie. I was scooped from starship to wardship and Momma and I decided that we didn't wanna be without each other anymore!

But it's super duper easy! I've heard floret friends say they walked into the domestication center and said "One owner please!" To the clerk and were carried out in vines not long after. Though going to the domestication center can be kinda scary! It's a big big bigbigbig decision, a good decision but still a scary one sometimes so if you needs a buddy to go with I'm your girl! Same thing with the vet... I used to get really anxious but the last time I was spooked was when Spine Friend was supposed to get grafted.

Its crazy how genuinely deeply unhealthy hdg is for me

The idea that there is a world out there where everything is okay filled with infinitely many wonderful sensations to experience and ‘people’ that will never get tired of me that I can escape to only in daydreams and the fact that none of it will even remotely be real and all my brain can do about it is crave it and try to replicate sensations that do not exist might be damaging for my mental health

Good morning my stars and stardusts~ here’s a fun fact for your day, every haustoric implant comes programmed standard to develop a mesh around your brain that makes getting a concussion impossible.

This means you can’t punch a floret to knock them out and the only thing you’ll end up accomplishing is making them cry and giving them some bruises, which is one way to get forcibly domesticated and brainwashed so much you’ll be convinced your parents actually gave you the first name muffin.

HDG x WoF crossover. Make scavengers their own sophont species to keep in line with the rule of "humans haven't made contact with species other than rinans." OR. MAYBE. RINANS ARE SCAVENGERS AND HUMANS DIDN'T REALIZE DRAGONS WERE INTELLIGENT.

Cough cough. Anyway. The affini dismantle monarchy. Dragons make very great pets especially RainWings. LeafWings can be a little tricky due to their leaf speak. A sufficiently powerful LeafWing can slow down or trip up an affini but of course the affini are inevitable. LeafWings are actually the most independent group despite their affiliation with plants. They have trauma from mind controlling plants.

Assuming the NightWings have a decent population of seers they surrender basically immediately because none of their seers can envision a future where they're not under the control of the Affini Compact.

Your affini brings you aboard the Carcosa, a Compact ship rivaling the size of pluto in length. You've never been aboard such a huge ship and you're nervous. Don't worry, your affini says, you'll be alright. You're wearing something different today. Something so luxurious you never could have dreamed of it under the Accord.

You reach a massive outdoor space. It's a brightly colored village that looks straight out of the history textbooks your affini showed you of what Terra was like a thousand years ago in the 1500's. Humans, affini, and tons of other xenosophont species you don't recognize are dressed as nobility, adventurers, jesters, and fantasy creatures. Some even look like a conventional DND party. A few humans have their ears bio-modded to be pointed. Your affini hands you a caramel covered apple. Enjoy the fair, says the affini at the entrance.

You have more fun than you could have imagined. There are shows, games, displays. A big puppet show with a massive red-gold greedy dragon controlled by unseen affini. The dragon is slain in the end and all of its gold given to the villagers it had been stolen from. You take a handful of gold pieces. They're chocolates covered in gold foil. Actual gold foil, not just yellow aluminum.

Your eyes turn to the throne at the top of the stage. You find yourself staring at the affini sitting in it. Dark twisted branches sprout from the top of its head, it has a pale mask of a blue-white alien wood. Its robes are made of long golden grass, countless dandelions and sunflowers and marigolds. You realize why the ship is called the Carcosa. Its captain is the King in Yellow.
